Wes and Naseef must feel vindicated and re-energised - if their interest was showings signs of waning.

When we had Unai come in I was delighted and hugely optimistic. By hugely optimistic, I thought that if we could hit around 50 points we'd finished somewhere in the middle pack and that would put us in a good position to start well next season with a window under our belt and the progression would then come.

61 points. 7th place.  Europe. Fuckin hell. Absolutely superb.

Unai seems to have an answer for every issue thrown at him. After the threat of stagnation and exhaustion with Wolves and United, he found a way to get his players up and deliver in the final matches. What he's done to our home form is something astonishing because it's been a perennial issue. Our away form is pretty good too.

From 17th and genuinely worrying about what position we might be in come May... to Europe.

Give him a fucking knighthood.

He's already a legend.

When we need the result, Unai gets the result every single time.

It makes me feel ready to take on the world so imagine being one of the players when you know he's in that mode when he talks about the next being huge or a cup final.

His motivational skills must be incredible.

First time I've heard him reference '82:

Quote
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery: "Good evening, I am very proud. These players have really followed me for the last six months, it has been demanding and we are committed.

"We finished perfectly in the last six matches at home, we beat a very good team and to achieve the European place is the best possible end. We will be in Europe which for me is very important. It has given me a lot, it is fantastic, another way and another trophy at the end.

"I am very thankful for every supporter. Historically this is a geat team, we won the European Cup, a long time ago but we can now try to improve and get an ambitious step ahead. This is the first step.

"Europe adds more matches and more difficult moments but I like that. It is very important for us."

The man just has real gravitas. There genuinely aren’t many managers who do.

He's got to be here for the long-term. Like 20 years.

Only once since MON left has a manager got more points in a PL season than Emery managed this season, and a lot of them had full 38 game seasons and he's only had 25 games.

That would have been after they've been able to build their own squad too, not coming in mid-season and work with what he's got.
