Getting a manager of Emery's standing is something we should've done years back.
For too long we tended to view the managerial vacancy as either someone who previously played for us (Gregory) or needed experience from someone past their best (Houllier/Bruce). Rest were punts like Lambert, Sherwood and Gerrard which all crashed and burned to various degrees.
Sometimes you just have to go out and get someone vastly experienced at the top end of football and just like when we appointed O'Neill 17 years ago we've qualified relatively quickly for europe so it's no great secret sometimes.
Not just the results but the way we play back to front and also see out games we're narrowly leading is all top level mentality. So many times we've given away goals in 95th minute in key games in last 20 years through sitting deep and just booting the ball anywhere, we barely gave Brighton a serious chance in second half and game management is first class.
I think the sky is the limit now. Infact fast forward to May 2028 and I'd be amazed if this day is the high point of Emery's tenure, it's only the start.
