Plus he doesn't seem to make it all about him

I'm fairly sure he didn't respond to the "Unai give us a wave" chant which I really like.

I said to the lad next to me that I think it's actually rude to ask him to.

The man is busy making us happy, let him be.

One of the important things for me is that he (and his team) have likely added £100,000,000 or more to the overall value of the squad.  Not many will be going, if at all, at the end of the season for sub £20-30m bracket.  There aren't many in the first team I'd let go for less than £50-60m.

Towards the end of the Newcastle demolition there was a loud chorus of "Unai Emery's claret and blue army." Emery started waving his arms around like he does for most of the match, and a large section of the crowd cheered as they seemed to think he was waving at them. He wasn't, it's just what he does to the players all games by way of signalling instructions!

Sitting right behind him I do think he was actually conducting the singing.

A nice piece on our tactics in the Athletic.  I can't really copy paste as it needs the photos.

If you want to read just stop your page fully loading (on a PC refresh and then click the x next to the website address bar as it's loading, you can also do this on a phone - may take 2 or 3 tries)

I reckon it would be closer to double that, itbrvilla. Earlier in the season I'd have bitten your hand off for £20m and a bag of scratchings for Watkins. Now, not that we'd sell but £70m wouldn't surprise me. As for SJM, there were plenty that would have been happy to get our money back for what we paid Hibs, now he's back to being the £50m+ Man Utd dreamed of signing. What McGinn offers every team needs and wants, he may not be the most skillfull but he wins and drives the midfield. There's your £100m to get you started.

Whilst I'm here, has anybody else noted how the Arsenal fans are now lining up in long queues to claim Emery was poorly treated at the Emirates mainly by the players, the board (for not backing him), the post Wenger mess and some fans? Almost as funny as some jealous/bitter/Geordie/Spursy types etc fans claiming Emery will soon be off as he's too good for us.

As long as we don't ask him to 'give up a wave' I think he's in for as long as we want him.

Notable how quickly Coutinho very publicly dismissed links to a move away in January.

I wasn't surprised that he didn't wave when prompted. He's focussed on the game and would probably feel that it would be disrespectful to the opposition. He wants to make the players the centre of attention too.

I much prefer that to having someone every time they're asked to.

Gabby was fine until he was made to bulk up.

Who by? O’Neill said he didn’t like it.

Did he? My recollection was that he'd been asked to bulk up in the off season, which he duly did.

I thought it was O'Neill encouraged it but Houllier didn't like it? I may be wrong

I definitely recall O’Neill saying it was Gabby’s idea and worrying he could lose pace.

Yeah, I remember that. The problem wasn't bulking up, it was the extent to which he bulked up - and kept going. By 2012-13 he looked like a scaled-down contestant on World's Strongest Man, not a footballer.

If memory serves he bulked up after time with the England squad. Capello?
