Gabby was fine until he was made to bulk up.

Who by? O’Neill said he didn’t like it.

Did he? My recollection was that he'd been asked to bulk up in the off season, which he duly did.

As for Howe, didn't he fuck off to Burnley at one point before going back?

Howes comments before ,  were something along the lines of Villa play in a certain way and don’t change  from that ?  i maybe wrong

Thing is, he's right, we always play our game; what changes is how we get into position to play our game. Long flat balls to McGinn, Buendia coming deeper, Moreno's starting position even higher and wider than usual, the Donck really sitting in there allowing Luiz to press more, all those little things.

Garth Brooks (I know, I know) faint-praised us for having cut through the overcomplicated with 'simple football', which couldn't be more bollocks. It's some of the most detailed football I've ever seen!

To be fair, he’s a country singer so I can’t really criticise him for failing to notice the subtleties of Emre’s style.

I thought it was O'Neill encouraged it but Houllier didn't like it? I may be wrong

I thought that about MON too... and Houllier probably saw that he'd bulked up on chips and shit.

My recollection is that it was entirely self inflicted as he felt he’d be better if he was able to stand up to the physical stuff from the likes of Vidic etc etc. cue 6 to 7 seasons of plodding around, injuries and the odd goal against the Blues to keep everyone onside. It was bulk for the sake of it, rather than a planned muscle building regime for better performance. I’m
Amazed he wasn’t made to lose the weight and that he couldn’t see the effect it had on his body and all round game. Idiot.

True, especially given it's been a while since his heyday at Inter and with the Turkish national side.

You absolute bastard, you altered 'heyday' from 'hay day' just as I was about to use some horse related pun.

Ha I considered leaving it in, but it was an oversight not a typo/autocorrect so I didn't think it counted.

As each game goes by it seems more and more that we've hit the jackpot with Emery. We are really seeing the value of having an 'elite' manager with the tactical knowledge to overcome any challenge. Also, he made one signing, which on paper looked a bit odd but has actually made a huge impact on the way we play and the results. Imagine what he could do with two or three more of those.

Perhaps the most unexpected of his strengths has been his ability to improve the players we already have here. How many previously written off by Gerrard and/or the fans now look like world beaters?

I'm sure he will be backed by the owners too. Exciting times ahead.

Garth Brooks was at VP on Saturday? Fair enough, he can still sell-out three nights at Croke Park.

Also, a pity Willy Windsor and Thomas Hanks didn't pick this game to attend.
