He’s got the same record as Gerrard after ten games but Gerrard had easier games at least the first few.

Gerrard had Brighton, Palace, Man City, Leicester, Liverpool, Norwich, Chelsea, Brentford, Man U and Everton. Emery has had Man U, Brighton, Liverpool, Spurs, Wolves, Leeds, Southampton, Leicester, Man City and Arsenal. 5 of the same teams. Gerrard had Chelsea rather than Spurs, and Everton and Norwich rather than Southampton and Leeds, so all in all pretty well identical really. After a decent start the players let Gerrard down, and they're now doing the same for Emery.

Nah, a lot of it was definitely down to how utterly fucking shit and useless Gerrard was. There's a reason we never beat anyone who wasn't shit under him. He's a Poundland Sherwood, without the charisma or a few good wins.

Gerrard let everyone down.

Is the penny not dropping yet that it *might* just be this set of players? It's copying almost exactly what happened under Gerrard and Smith, with the slight difference that it's only taken Emery ten games to realise that they're incapable of following instructions and calling them out for it.

The penny dropped long ago that *these* players, managed by Gerrard, were a shitshow. We had more than ten games to endure before that penny dropped with the powers that be. When Emery gets the same number of games as he did, we'll be better off. I promise.

Undoubtedly we need better quality but I can’t see much difference, if there is it’s in our favour, between our team or squad and that of Brighton or Fulham or Brentford. 2 of those have had managers working with them for a lot longer than Emery.

But we are not a Brighton, Fulham or Brentford, or a previous season’s Sheffield United or Leeds. We are more like Newcastle , Spurs or Everton. Massive clubs. Takes something special to turn them around. A special manager, lots of money , shrewd investment, not necessarily all of those but just a combination of luck and timing as well, and when success comes, it stays for a good few years, not fleeting like a Brighton or a Fulham or a Sheffield United.

Agree with others.  Rip it up and start again, leaving the likes of Mings, Moreno, Duran, Carlos, Watkins, Kamara, Martinez in the squad. Luiz, Ramsey probably, too.   But, we will have to be patient and it will take several windows to take us up a level and there is no guarantee that top class players will come.

Defensively, we really need sorting.  Not just the defenders, but those in front of them.

The reality is the majority of the squad are playing at the level they’re capable of - mid to lower table. They’ll have good games, but they’re inconsistent. We’ve got a few that are better than that, but not enough. To progress we need to not lose our best players and bring in about 4 players of genuine quality in the summer and then follow it up in the next window, and the next. That’s what it’ll take.

Why, pretty decent observation based on facts.

He needs time or do you want him sacked already? Might take a couple of years but I'm convinced hes the right man

Maybe you need to read the post, he is blaming the players not the manager.

Fairly calm about the whole thing because I trust Emery.

Our players aren’t good enough - simple as that. They are good, but just not good enough.

Maybe only a couple of them could play in a top 6-8 team. Our team is basically full of players who would be on the bench for genuine top six sides.

It’s unrealistic to think we can change a whole team in one transfer window, but the hope would be we could recruit 2 or 3 genuine top players each window form now on and in two years be a regular top six team

Talking sense this man.
People need to take a chill pill and relax.
its UE's first season and he working with what he has inherited.
For me its still a case of making sure the club stays in the division and UE assessing the whole squad available to see who can form the firm base for him to graft on the extra bit of quality to needed to push on.
Any talk of a serious challenge for europe and challenging the top seven should really wait until the season after next.

There are winnable points in the next five games that I hope will see us ok for the rest of the season.  Everton, away, will be tough but we can get something there, Palace at home, West Ham away, Bournemouth at home before Chelsea away.  Need to tighten up defensively but we are also scoring goals, good ones too.

Based on 3 points for a win he's also got the same record as Ron Saunders after 10 games.

Because every time we do, we never win any of them! We must have heard "if we play like that, we'll be absolutely fine." a hundred times. We then don't play like that, and aren't absolutely fine.
