Not sure if this is by THAT Nick Timothy. Good article anyway.

I struggled with it as soon as got the number of games under Gerrard wrong, it was 2 wins from 11 because of the leicester game being postponed. That sort of basic error puts me off because it would take a few seconds to check.

That article should be shown to the likes of Danny Mills and other useless pundits. Mind you they would only read a line or two before making up their own agenda like they do on their highlights analysis.

Yes that was incorrect, but the basic jist of the article was pretty spot on it is analysis I thought.

Very good article, I particularly liked the “pig headed” part about Gerrard.

It’s been a great start under Unai, it’s still early days but there are so many positives about the start we have made under him.

I hope he is backed in the transfer market correctly, as I think id he is Europe won’t be far away at all, with a couple of quality additions it may just be this season.

It would help more if they could read

I sympathise with that, and offer a bit of advice - avoid some of the Villa podcasts. A few of them can’t seem to remember results and scorers, and particularly can’t recall points and games totals from relevant points in the season. A bit grating after a while.

Note to podcasters -  it was 9 points from 11 games.

I agree, I just find it amazing that someone would do an article like that and not confirm their stats, I just think if you're sloppy with something that anyone could check with a minute on the internet then where else are you cutting corners?

I don't mind it in things like forums or conversation (and I'd count podcasts as conversations) and I can even accept shoddiness on blogs pages, etc, but when you're writing for a professional publication it's just poor.

On the article more broadly there's nothing in there to disagree with, it looks a lot like many posts people have made on here and clearly written by someone who is a Villa fan first and foremost. That honesty, a few big words and an out of place fact about Villareals nickname is refreshing i guess but it's not the sort of insight that would convince me to subscribe to the magazine.

It is that Nick Timothy and, like his time as a spad, it feels a bit like he left the work unti lthe last minute and then rushed something out without much thought or fact checking.

Yep, THAT Nick Timothy. "Nick Timothy is the author of Remaking One Nation: The Future of Conservatism and a Daily Telegraph columnist."

I've not idea who he is or his politics, but it's a good article and he clearly knows the club.

He was the advisor who suggested to Theresa May it would be a good idea to trigger article 50 and then waste the first few months after doing so on a general election where the support for brexit would deliver her the strong majority she needed.

He is definitely a Villa fan and the article clearly reflects that.

He writes some proper nonsense on other topics, but that article is spot on.

I think he is a ST holder. His brother is, John Timothy.

When John was the CEO of the Portman Group, given my 'day job' I met a couple of times on work stuff. UTV.

Irrespective of errors over Gerrard's record,  this article is worth it alone for this devastating summary of Steeeeeeevie G:

"Rigid in his tactics, and tactless with his players..."

Scouse nail hit firmly on the head
