Well we do still need the data analysis that Lange is involved in, plus research, discussions, negotiations, budgeting, etc. Plus there's the academy business and deals and the women's team, though I can't remember if he is involved in women's transfers or not.

Sporting director Johan Lange's data-driven approach has brought structure to the recruitment process at every level.

Hmm.

Maybe he's using one of those budget mini calculators from B&M Bargains or whatever and it's throwing out crazy numbers.

What is the saying used by statisticians?  Rubbish in rubbish out.

It's obvioulsy worked well for the likes of Brentford, Brighton and Southampton.  Maybe Lange should trade in his ZX Spectrum for the far more capable BBC Micro model B?

He’s using an Oric these days

Trust a Dane to go for the obscure option.  I could have understood where he was coming from if he'd gone for a Commodore 64 - the graphics are amazing - but an Oric?

Returning to the days of handing back all control MON style to the head coach is a concerning one but no surprise. I'm sure the owners had to give Emery those kind of assurances before he agreed to join. Lange's position is surely untenable if first team recruitment is outside his brief.

That’s if you take the article as factual. It might be right but there are no sources quoted to support it.

At least we know that the club will only be signing players that the Manager wants.

I think the leap is that we appear to be looking mostly at players Emery knows well, which suggests possibly more led by him than Lange, who is still pressing rewind on his tape machine to load up the programme.

I think there will be a blend. Lange will be seeing what he can find, Emery will be clear about what he wants too, and will no doubt ask Lange to go and sort it.

There doesn't need to be any difficulty, or any falling out, or power struggle, I think we can go out and do a decent job with them both.

Right, so he's still typing in pages of code he found for a scouting programme in Dragon User magazine?

Structure?! The £100m one from Grealish can hardly said to have been spent well.

I think you're right.  I suspect in the short term we'll be going mainly for Emery identified targetts, but Lange will still be looking at youth and other prospects.

Hey don’t knock the ZX Spectrum.
When the Fire Service went Computerised in the 80’s they needed a Head of Department.
The chap who got it, and a big promotion to boot, got it on the back of owning a ZX Spectrum!!
