I was just thinking, notwithstanding Unai wanting to bring in his own players, there seems to be a lot of talk that he is happy with a lot of the players he already has, and he’s already shown that if the kids are good enough to fit his system then they will get their chance e.g.  Kaden Young and Arjan Raikhy.  Given their rapid rise I wonder what he will think of the kids we have out on loan eg KKH, Louis, Tim and Finn?  It would be a shame if he didn’t have a good look before bringing in his own
Totally agree, but the challenge will be making a significant step up towards Euro footie and bringing the kids through. Tim, Raikhy and Boubu would be a great midfeld three but (i) where does that leave the other talent we have? and (ii) is it good enough to play at the top of the table regularly?

He's not been here long, but from seeing him speak and the faces at training, it looks like there are a few players who have really impressed him - Buendia from the experienced bunch, Raikhy and Kadan Young from the kids.

I'm really hopeful he'll knock out the wastage from Buedia's game and turn him into a total killer.

I put a video up a while back of us wasting much of the great work done by Buendia. So while your point is valid about Emi, the others need to help him by putting away what he creates. We need to improve everywhere akin to a rising tide lifting all boats. So to speak.

I agree TV, a lot of the good work is wasted because of a lack of movement from others.  Hopefully part of the game that Unai will address by either coaching them properly, or by bringing in some quality.

Yes, I agree, but I'm talking more about the little spells in games when he tries passes that are not on and we've just been under the cosh for five minutes.

Did anyone think that Emery wouldn't be talking up the players that he's got to work with? Seems like basic man management. We'll only know what he really thinks of the players by how much of a turnover there is over the next few windows.

Awful in game management today. Urgently needed to switch away from the kamikaze tactics early in first half but didn't bother. Three subs on 84 min was at least 10-15 mins too late. Klopp was throwing on kids in comparison. Bad day on sideline. Clear he has no faith in bench (age old Villa manager tactic pre imminent transfer window).

Agreed, absolutely no point in bringing 3 subs on at 85 minutes, pointless in the extreme. We were right at them for the first 15 mins of the second half but then visibly tired after that. Far too little, too late.

Buendia was passing to them and Bailey had run out of ideas, others looking leggy and he stuck. It was all a bit Southgate.

Did they do a film of Emery 'conducting the orchestra' from the technical area today?

The subs may have come late but there wasnt a great deal to change. We carved them open quite a few times so you could argue it was best to stick with it. For me, there wasnt an obvious sub to make.

Reactionary comments. With Ramsey out and Coutinho with no form at all, there were no real game changers on the bench. He would of needed to change the whole system to accommodate Ings today and at 1-2, we were well in the game. If Olsen stays on his line, the 3rd is a lot harder to score.   We need a couple in.

Buendia was having a shocker so should have been hooked for Coutinho. Cash for Young was also an obvious change just to get fresh legs in earlier.

Young had a good 2nd half. Coutinhio hasnt even had a good 5 minutes since last season
