Emery said he wants to win something here, which many of us (sensibly) think is probably a cup.  It doesn't have to be the 22/23 League Cup, though.  Staying in the premier league and getting as far up it as possible is the enormous priority at the moment because, like Newcastle are right now, looking like the real deal to potential transfer targets is more important than going through in an early cup game (with zero guarantees that this leads to any glory). 

Draw or win in Brighton on Sunday, and resting some players for the game midweek will be justified IMO. 

Aside from a couple of weirdos, it seems to me that nobody on here has anything other than full support for Emery. Like, he's the least controversial manager we've ever signed!!!!

I was concerned when I saw the defence line up last night, but for the best part of 80 mins it was working. That was until Olsen dropped an almighty bollock or two.

But our in-ability, whoever is playing in defence, to keep teams out right after we've scored, has been there for a long time.

Thinking Emery is a great manager and being delighted that he's here doesn't mean we can never express disappointment after a defeat ever again, any more than thinking Gerrard was shite meant that we couldn't enjoy any of the wins during his tenure.

No, never. 3 or 1 point in the League is never equal to getting knocked out of the cup. We can make up those point during the season but cup exit is final.

We are all disappointed at last night. But maybe we our expectations were a little too elevated from the weekend and the managers cup pedigree. And I’m not saying we shouldn’t want more, much more, given what we have all lives through of late. But he’s clearly taking the long approach. I don’t think we should have lost last night with that team. We had enough chances to win it but threw it away. But there was loads of positives to take from it and I am sure the manager learned about players who won’t be part of our future. So I am going to hope that this is a learning experience and that come January not only are we better positioned in the league but that the FA cup is something he really focuses on.

The only reason people are saying the plan was been executed correctly in the first half is because it was 0-0
We were absolutely dreadful lost the ball all the time no creativity on the pitch at all and no pace, I could see from the very first minute that we were not going to be able to attack or play any decent football, the full backs one an old age pensioner the other absolutely useless, every time YOUNG got the ball on the wing he was caught up easily by the defender

Honestly it was a shambles of a team selection and the only reason we were in the game at half time was because Man United were just as shit
I would put my life on the fact that if we had of played a proper starting 11 the game would’ve been over before half-time, Man United were that bad
And we fucked up big time

The other thing to say, when me and others say we were disappointed in the lineup etc and Emery got it wrong it doesn’t translate into writing him off or thinking he should go
I’ve waited years for a foreign manager with a brain I ain’t giving up on him now

But it doesn’t stop me being totally pissed off with another golden opportunity for a bit of silverware thrown away yet again because of piss poor judgement

Totally agree.  There was no excuses not to play the full strength team from Sunday.
Especially when it was so bloody obvious what the likely outcome would be with the team he picked.
He got it wrong plain and simple. 
Nobody is calling for his head. 
Let’s see what team he picks tomorrow and decide then😉
