I noted that Purslow said Emery will work with the owners on the first team and youth too.

And that ITV Central reporter asking him where he'd learnt English as he'd heard from Peaky Blinders.... I despair.

There is a clip doing the rounds from when he was at Arsenal saying he was watching English TV to help pick up the language and he specifically referenced Peaky Blinders.

I know, I just find it odd that at his unveiling as Villa manager the one question he was asked by ITV was about his English...

Purslow looks edgy and awkward.

I thought that, what with the comment about Emery working with the owners, I reckon he's on very thin ice.

He seems like a really decent guy. I know that it's a results business and blah blah blah, but it matters to me that we have good guys at our club.

I love our new manager. I really hope he is the one.

Backroom team confirmed https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/november/04/villa-confirm-unai-emery-s-backroom-team/

Ayestaran, Villanueva and Garcia as expected. Good!

The 'further annonucements' line at the end is interesting, I wonder if the plan is to add someone else who might be busy for the next month or 2. Of course it could be about what happens to Danks.

Probably more data/video analysts if the article Drummond posted is anything to go by. All good so far though.

Yeah, that seems fair, I wouldn't be suprised if we see another technical coach as well because I get the impression that he likes to focus on getting the basics right. Hopefully it'll see players more confident on their weaker side and more trusting of each other when putting a bit more weight on our passes (the 2 'easy' things to do to get us playing at a better tempo).

Who is the high-profile assistant that Balague teased last week?

Pako Ayestaran - he's been around for years as a manager and assistant.

It’s a weird feeling but simply down to his proven track record I just want to give him all the time he needs to sort this out. There are going to be some bumps along the way but I have full confidence he will get more out of the current players and he will add players who will improve us. Gerrard never gave me that feeling.

I agree, this feels like a proper appointment in a way that I don't think we've seen since MoN, special mention for Smith though who was what we needed at the time, mostly because of his love for the club which helped bring everyone together.

Just think how broke we’d all be feeling if Sean Dyche was up there croaking at us. Even if he ultimately did a decent job we’d all be very deflated at the immediate prospects.

I’m impressed with that back room coaching list. Yes there’s a lot, but to me it screams “ organised”. Everyone has a defined roll, and we will be coached coached coached and coached some more ! In particular I like the fact we have a “ individual performance coach “.
There was clips in the Arsenal Amazon thing, where players were brought in for one on one chats with, what I presume to be,  similar.

This team are going to improve our players. I just know it.
Then add some better ones.

I’m excited. I was “meh” about Gerrard , but hoped he’d be the manager as somewhere as good as he was a player. He wasn’t close.

This guy just seems to be the perfect fit. Hopefully that new manager bounce with a rocking VP on Sunday to beat that lot.

I have complete faith in Emery, so if he decides to start, rotate, or omit any player as long as he has a squad of players he can count on, then so be it. Unai knows exactly what he wants and what he expects of his players and he'll build and make a squad that he finds more than competitive without having to talk the talk and be all cliche about the players.  Emery will look to deliver on the pitch and the football will be identifiable.

Emery's beliefs are far more compelling to me than Gerrard's. Both in football and manner.
Undoubtedly a higher pedigree and level of manager and it's so exciting and have hope for the games even before the world cup that they are all positive.
A new era is upon us . Watch out Premier league!
Ave, Emery!
