Excited about Emery. Seems a genuine 'top 10 in the world' type coach/manager/whatever.

Yes me too.  So far I've seen very little in the usual media outlet places that reflects what is a bit of a coup for the Villa.  There was even something earlier about Newcastle 'dodging a bullet' by going for Howe.  Unbelievable really, for what is usually not a click bait place.  https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2022/oct/28/premier-league-10-things-to-look-out-for-this-weekend

Maybe the stories will ramp up when he properly takes over next week.

I feel bad saying it in a way because I know females are under represented and the sport is rife with mysogyny, but Louise Taylor is a fucking awful writer, she's covered the North East for them for ages but I think it's just because they can't be bothered to go all the way up there to replace her.

To be fair, working for that vile regime, knowing how to ‘dodge a bullet’ is a pretty important skill to have.

I’ve read conflicting articles about his preferred formation, is it 442 or 4231?

He uses both systems and sometimes during a game. He's known for being adaptable with his set ups depending on the opposition. He's obsessive about studying the opponents and sets his team up accordingly.

Good - that 4-4-2 almost every week under MON was part of the reason we didn't reach the heights we should have. Glad to have a coach in that can and will mix it up.

Spalletti: "Systems no longer exist in football"

https://twitter.com/CanoFootball/status/1585686716727296015?t=vbpEOa44UH2XwLxtI_EjOA&s=19

Spalletti's always been an innovative little weirdo whose hunches either really come off or really don't. This year, so far, Jesus is it paying off!

You've got to admire the man. More clubs than Vieri. Let's push for him once Emery ditches us in 2025.

He's probably checking that contract for a get out clause as we speak.

This will be some of the squads 3rd coach and they haven’t improved under 2 of them. Smith was a decent training ground coach but defensively we are still appallingly bad. I hope Emery can sort this first but I won’t expect miracles because he’ll need to buy a few that are good enough for this league.
He’s got a huge job on with this squad and I’d say 12th/14th would be a huge success.

Run for the hills Unai . If you thought getting a tune out of Ozil was hard…
