The weird thing is that we were first linked with him back in March/ April time, there were a couple of stories saying if Gerrard didn't improve form he was a target in the summer. Can't find them now, but makes me think the club isn't as watertight as we think.

This is a really good video on Emery's tactics at Villareal.  Also very good knowledge of our players and how it could fit us.  I'm very impressed with this analysis

Unai Emery is the new manager of Everton. Eh?

Good analysis though, makes me very exited. Asymmetric formations, be still my beating heart.

I posted this earlier on the thread and if you’ve got a few mins to spare it’s worth a watch.  His attention detail is well known but here he brings it to life and it brings the game down to fine margins

Hope he plays the system where you attack the opposition goal, it's been around for over a hundred years and it works,

What about Berlin?

Surely the most underperforming large football city in Europe?

Hertha Berlin have played in the Champions League, making the Second Group Stage in 1999/2000. Union Berlin must have a decent chance of qualifying in the next few years, currently top of the league.

The other great underperforming German city (in recent years) is Hamburg. However, despite their current second tier status, even SV Hamburger have managed two Group Stage appearances.

Hamburg also won the proper competition too lest we forget.

The Tifo guys are pretty good too.  This is 5 months old.  I'm not sure about Mings and Konsa playing triangles in our own halves, but gives an insight into the flexibility of his tactics at Villareal.

Yep, hence my "in recent years" qualification.

He was also succeeding Wenger, a club legend. That kind of role is virtually impossible from the start.

Not sure how he's going to do following on from Gerrard then. ;)

I've heard he wants to change the walk-on music to RHCP...

This must stop, Rory.

Can't Stop 😉

There's not many open minded and quality pundits out there at the moment.  On Talksport I'd say only Laura Woods and Simon Jordan speak any real sense.  For all the dislike they get I also think Neville and Carragher are worth listening to.  Sue Smith and Steven Warnock aren't too bad.  I used to really like Liam Rosenior when we were in the Championship - he was a class above.  Have I missed any?
Pat Nevin, haven’t heard him talk about our news but he’s on a different plain intellectually.

We don't want watertight, we need Vinnie to keep being a mole.

Thats very good. The one concern i suppose I would have is the tactic of the right winger having more freedom and the left winger having more defensive duties. Bailey was clearly far more effective on the left on Sunday than he’s ever been on the right. Hopefully there is flexibility in this approach as i don’t see Bailey being able to contribute much defensively on the left.
