This man is still one of the best coaches in Europe. I’ve read the signs are there the players aren’t listening to him, that’s ridiculous. He’s improved every player and I’m sure he’s held in high regard by them.
He’s improved us beyond belief as a club and in todays world it’s refreshing not to here a manager moaning about injuries and making excuses. He’s a class act.

Of course he is. We are incredibly fortunate to have him. But he’s not beyond criticism. If there is a silver lining to all of this is that he also takes stock of how things have gone across the long term. I’m sure our transfer activity will once again look to make us solid and play a variety of ways for multiple seasons not just one so we continue to have chances like yesterday. It’s been absolute shit to lose two semi finals and a quarter final in the last two seasons. But by equal measure it’s something to even say we got that far in major competitions given where we were when he got here. I don’t think yesterday changes his desire to get us to win things. He’s made a career of it. We will improve. But yesterday fucking hurts.

We'll get lots more practice of semi finals under Emery.
At the moment he's a nearly man in his four seasons in the premier league. He'll want to change that for sure.

Some of this ‘terrible season’ stuff is so over the top. Yesterday was horrific but a week ago we were dismantling Newcastle, short memories.

Quarter finals of the champions league, semi finals of the cup, challenging for European places.

Honestly, anyone who thinks that is a bad season must have been supporting us for about two years.

Indeed.  I'm still utterly gutted after yesterday.  Haven't been able to look at a newspaper, or read a thing about it.  Anger has given way to dejection now.  But I still recognise this has been a pretty good season for us.  I want us to win every single game we play, every tournament we enter, blowing away all before us in every 90 minutes we play.  But I also know this is not how this sport works.  I hope to God we're not developing a fan base like some of those you see amongst the 'top 6' where they've turned entitlement into an art-form.

There is nothing wrong with being pig sick about yesterday.  There is nothing wrong with being angry at the manner of the defeat.  But anyone believing it makes the season a 'failure' clearly has an extremely short memory.  We've had plenty of seasons of failure, and I assure you, they look nothing like this.

Talk of wholesale changes, and even someone questioning Unai's position, is frankly laughable.

I hope we don't drop off a cliff like last season, and keep the top 5 challenge alive until the last day.  We still have something to play for.

Is he? I think 99% of people think he’s done a sensational job at Villa

Specifically winning trophies. He won't want to look back one day a day see no trophies from his time in England.

You won't find a more staunch defender of Emery than me. Had many rows in match threads defending him, even yesterday.

But yesterday was dreadful. Such a non performance with Crystal Palace the only team in our way of a major final. It is staggering and adds to the compound interest of hurt after so many Wembley visits this century where we never showed up.

I just put it down to raw emotion and presume those people will think differently once they've had time to process things. When you take a step back and look at it, we've come a long way in a short space of time and this feels like it's all part of the process.

Interested to see the steps Emery and Monchi take in the summer to help us to take the next step in our evolution.

The sad thing is that it will be failure, based on the position we got ourselves into at the end of March.

No CL then the wholesale changes will be influenced by outside factors that we have little control over... FFP/PSR, new contracts, level of signings etc etc.

I have every faith in Unai getting us in a decent position again next season, but we have to take that final step and win something - otherwise he'll just be another MoN.

Seen the post match comments about the league being our priority and I am even more angry.

Now we know why we were so passive yesterday in a SEMI FINAL. We obviously think Fulham at home next weekend is more important than lifting silverware.

Have we forgotten what football is meant to be about?

Yeah, we should focus on developing the North Stand!

Quite. We've been on a great run of late, losing last minute goals to PSG and Man City away has been a bit of a killer. Saturday was just deflating and hurts.

I'm proud of what we've done this season, and we could yet finish strongly in the league and get Champions League football, at the least we'll be in Europe again.
