Well at least we may find out what this squad is capable of now he’s gone.

I think we will be disappointed

We might at least recognise a system.

Back to the game. Bailey at fault for the first goal. If he puts a challenge in on the defender when our attack broke down the next passage of play doesn’t happen. He was disgraceful tonight. If he’s injured why play him?

Thanks for comparing us to Barcelona lol,  that’s probably the best we’ve played this season, wether it’s because you were crap, or we were really good, I think it’s somewhere in between, I think you a bit unlucky with both the red card and the penalty, but you did seem a bit toothless, I don’t think our goalkeeper had a proper save to make, your confidence seem shot, and now Gerrard’s gone now it’s got to get better for you surely, and good luck for the rest of the season

I agree.  Some of these players just aren’t up to it.

Gerrard didn’t tell McGinn to play that ball straight out of bounds.  Just like he didn’t tell Bailey to play like a fanny.  Pretty sure he didn’t tell Ming’s to keep making mistakes to give goals away or Konsa and Buendia to throw themselves to the deck at the slightest touch leaving themselves out of position.

There is a lot wrong, Gerrard is/was just one part.

I accept that the squad needs improvement but with the right manager we can play a damn sight better with these players.

There is a lot wrong, but I'm struggling to think of anything Gerrard did right.

We could see Archer being given a proper run for a start. That aside, Smith had a lesser squad than we have now but managed to get some style and effort into them.

It was a shocking team selection too. Sent all the wrong messages that we were afraid of Mitrovic and that if we stuck with Ings and Watkins up front a ball might bounce off a knee into the net. A lot of players obviously sensed it too and didn't play for the shirt tonight let's be honest.

Even to the last few minutes Ashley Young was there blocking crosses and also getting up the pitch to put a decent one in for Watkins. His effort shamed the rest tonight and I was totally against giving him an extra year.

Haha. But I did say "right", not "not catastrophic".

I heard he guaranteed energy prices and abolished the national insurance increase too.

I can't think of a single positive from his 'coaching', I really can't.

Just as Glen Whelan did us all a massive favour by missing that penalty, so this could turn out to be a great defeat.

I was in west-London tonight but thankfully far enough away from going raving mad at Craven Cottage.

Kevin Rowland was looking well, considering he came off his motorbike at speed a few months back on a slippy road in south-east Asia. He entered the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall in an extravagant fur coat, regaled us with tales of making Too Rye Ay 40 years ago and proceded to sit and listen back to a newly released mix of the album in front of about 200 fans.

"Listening to yer own music is like being caught fiddling with yerself" a sage once said. Kev at various points, nodded his head, bowed his head, yawned and hummed along to the record. And smiled shyly as the crowd applauded at the end of each song. There were a fair few Brummies in attendance, going by the accents on some of the folk who asked questions in the Q&A afterwards. This snapped me back to the reality of being a Villa fan so I duly checked me phone and saw that a third goal had gone in. Gerrard was sacked by the time I was walking home from the tube. Turned out to be a half-decent night all-round.

KR sounded in great form on Stuart Maconie's show the other day (might have been the Radcliffe Maconie thing, can't remember).
