Was it Kinsella that turned out to be a big Villa fan and was overjoyed that he'd got the chance to play for us, but we only learned this after he'd gone? Or did I dream that entirely?

Not sure about that. He was pants though, and had sounded promising for the money. He wasn't as bad a Djemba Djemba though.
As for Leonardson, it was an underwhelming one for sure but he actually did quite well.

Also, not sure how this has all come up on the Dendonker thread, as i think he's going to be a bargain.

Drinkwater is the only one ever where i made my mind up when we signed him, even before he'd kicked a ball that it was a big mistake and he was going to be utterly shite.

It really was completely unfathomable. Had hardly kicked a ball in anger for two years, couldn't get into a shit Burnley team, and had all sorts of really unsavoury stories following him around. So in he came, straight into the team, was shit, then left during which time he stuck the nut on Jota and then apologised using Google translate. Utter shit, and an utter twat.

The Djemba brothers deserve an honorary mention on this list so I'm mentioning them.

This particular topic probably deserves its own thread.

Signing Marlon Harewood was nuts. At that point we were getting excited and believing in our selves again and then we purchase him.

I had exactly the same regards as to a very similar type of player Villa had on loan in recent history, as I had some ITK from a very reliable source that, to use a totally inappropriate and misguided phrase, 'he liked a drink'. What was actually said was that there was a serious drink problem. When looking at some very talented players who appear to lose form very quickly you have to wonder if the game has a bigger with alcohol abuse that it cares to admit and that in reality the sport has not moved on from the lessons learnt from George Best and others.

If only he'd have displayed the same largesse in signing centre forwards as he did with centre halves. Carew didn't really count as Houllier gifted us him because he wanted Baros (lol).

You'd have thought that single transaction would've ruled out Houllier as a candidate to replace O'Neill.

I would imagine in any top level professional sport the opportunity to become an addict (Drink, Gambling, Sex - not so much drugs due to regular testing) as having that sort of wealth is a magnet to the wrong kind of "friends" and hangers on

I was talking to someone the other day that lived in the area Gazza used to frequent in his Spurs days, apparently back then he ‘really liked a drink’. I always thought that his horrendous drink problems came about after he finished playing, but perhaps not.
