Yeah Mini Emi gave the ball away a few times but he also made some good incisive stuff, not least with his running off the ball. The Donck, however, was everything we wanted him to be yesterday.

I don't think he was "a mixed bag" at all. I thought he played really well.

I think they were talking about Buendia then. Unless that's who you meant as well.

Oh, okay, apologies then. Mixed bag probably fair enough for Emi, but still played a vital part in the killer goal.

At times players can easily outrun Dendocker that would be my concern.
Offers solidarity and some ability so useful at this present time but maybe not one for when we get to the great heights for me.
I trust Emery view of how he wants to use him and play him

It's still very early days, he's only made a few starts but my initial thoughts are that we definately haven't overpaid for him, in fact in today's market at £13m it looks very shrewd. Height and physical presence is what we've been crying out for. Luiz, who a couple of months ago most were still saying shouldn't be starting for us, looks the best he's ever looked whilst being paired with Leandor.

Yes, they work very well together -and we still have Bouba to come back in!

And Tim will be back next season!

The future's claret and blue, I tell you...

Is he the worst signing since Jermaine Jenas (insert any of the many other names)?

I have two words for you, Aftab.

Mc. Cormack.

I have never seen anybody less interested in playing for us. A 24-karat cvnt, and probably the worst signing in our history.

Bosko Balaban. £6m in 2001, 11 appearances, 2 starts, 0 goals. Looked like he'd never even seen a football before.

I always thought that was a misunderstanding of some sort. A very costly one, but I never thought of him as a Villa player.

A bit like Berson or Boulding. Just one of those guys we dropped a bollock on.

2 things I remember about Bosko.

We were playing away against Arsenal, and DoL had been critical about Doug's financial support. In an interview on Sky TV, Doug said DoL had been "economical with the truth" and pointed out that £6 million "Balapan"  was sitting in the stands.

A training ground routine where DoL was trying to get Bosko to cross the ball on the run from the wing and it didn't go well: "You've got to better than that Bosko".

Second attempt with the same result: "You're shit, Bosko".

Your memory is better than mine. All I remember is that he wore a woolly hat.

Cost vs reward, though. Not sure any of us took Tonev seriously.

Tonev cost less than half what Balaban did, and was probably paid less as well. Despite being signed over a decade later.

That’s a very early call to put someone in the bracket of Bosko, McCormack and Micah.
