The thing is, if he's any good then surely he should have slotted straight in at 6 when Kamara got injured, allowing us to play Luiz at 8?  (of course these relies on Gerrard 'resting' McGinn or Ramsey)

Even though he's an international, it just feels like the type of signing we pay £15m for, but when we're trying to get rid the best we can do is a few loans while we fund the rest of their contract.

I can't say I've seen a huge amount of him, but so far to me he looks slow and cumbersome with the turning circle of an oil tanker.  But he does have 30 or so caps for Belgium, so surely there's something there to work with?

It’s One of those signings I thought we’d finished with
He won’t improve us and will add very little imo

I’ve never been one for the ‘he’ll do a job’ or ‘he fills space’ ‘he’s A useful back up player’
Our squads down the years have always been full of the this sort it never works out, I really don’t know why we signed him,  but hey he has got international caps

Gerrard will seemingly always start JJ and Meatball whenever possible, so this guy is going to struggle for game-time with Luiz back in favour now. And with Nakamba - limited but a lynchpin in Gerrard's best spell of results with us, and Sanson - technically probably the best of the lot but less likely than you and I to play for the Villa; maybe this was a bit of a panic-signing by the club.

Luiz has been playing pretty well at 6 since Kamara got injured. Very good v Leeds and Chelsea anyway so there hasn't been a need to make a change. Dendoncker would be worth trying sitting next to Luiz in a 4231. We do lack height and presence in the team generally and I thought he showed v Forest he would have his uses. If we stick to 433 then it's an odd signing. Luiz, Sanson, Ramsey etc all seem better suited to one of the 8s.

Perhaps when he signed there was an expectation that one or both of Sanson and Nakamba would move on. Now all three of them stuck on the bench seems a bit strange, that's with Kamara out injured too.

And another example of why you don’t write off a player when he’s played less than 90 minutes for your club.

Can people stop writing him off now. Outstanding 45 minutes and shows how much use he could be.

The very definition of a panic buy. He's absolutely shite. A Belgian Danny Drinkwater.

played a crucial role today to allow Luiz more freedom. He's clearly very physical too. Makes sense to have him involved.

Haha I know right.

Anyway there's people on here that think Bailey is slow so I'll hide behind them 😁

He was great. Pressed very well all match.

Keep him in next weekend please as we'll certainly need that at Newcastle.

Yes, I thought he made a huge difference today, esp for Luiz as you said.

He suits a 4-2-3-1. Not sure why Gerrard never tried it.

A great example of what happens when you actually play someone to their strengths. A rock today.
