Leander Dendoncker - Belgian International defender.
The new Bjorn Engels?

5-6 reasonably good appearances.
Training ground injury
4-5 months rehab
Comes back eventually, but has lost whatever he had.
Sold at a loss 12 months later.

Hope not.

That's pretty much the career arc of any player that joins us.

Seems sensible to me and I thought he was about 40!

Very bold of you.

It's just a sensible buy for the position we are in as we have no one like him really.

We’ve needed a Jedinak unspectacular type presence for some time. Hope this is it and his solidity aids the rest of the team in becoming more than the sum of it’s parts because it’s miles off at the moment.  I’m in.

My Wolves supporting mate says:-

Defensive midfielder

High energy, strong in the tackle. Gets into good positions but, doesn’t convert.

Can play CB too ⚽️👍

I don’t mind Dendoncker, but you can’t tell me we have been pursuing him all summer and have finally landed our man.

It feels like a bit of a ‘lets buy someone……. anyone’ situation and he happened to be available.

Along with Bednarek, this signing smacks of a pragmatic approach to get in such no- nonsense Premier league experience as may be required to help us stave off relegation this season, and with the nous to quickly adapt to the demands of whatever new manager is installed in the next week or two. If pragmatism is now the name of the game, perhaps a stop gap manager might also be in the offing.

We obviously won't have been chasing him all summer but he does fill a gap in our squad, we've needed a bit of physicality in midfield for years, so it's not like we've gone for anyone, we've gone for someone who's available that addresses a problem. Also he's a regular in the Belgian squad, you don't get into that squad without being a decent player.

One of the worst things I read on this site is ‘he will fill a gap in the squad‘

I honestly couldn’t care less about players coming in to fill gaps what is the point in a player Who is nowhere near good enough filling a gap there’s  just literally no point in it

All we’ll end up with is a load of bang average players who we’ll never be able to get rid of again because they’ll be sitting there on too much money
The whole thing is doing my head in now

I personally think he fills a gap in the team.

What makes you think a belgian international who has been a regular in a top half premier league team is 'nowhere near good enough'?
