Not sure there was a stand out man of the match but I thought Kamara, Mings and Carlos were all solid. Also thought Watkins had a good game.
Thats better. Though the last 10 minutes was the most Villa thing ever.Scores on the doorsMartinez - 8 not a huge amount to do but stood up well in those last few minutes with some key saves and time wasting.Cash - 6 got forward well but caught a couple of times late on

It was far too much Southgate type of football. Fullbacks standing wide 20 yards in opposition half and tapping it back. Not sure what Steven is doing or where he’s going.I believe this to be an incorrect analysis of todays performance .

We scored our second, and he was over at the touchline trying to talk to Gerrard while clutching the back of his thigh when Everton kicked off, immediately switching the ball to his side. Not long afterwards he looked to be a total passenger, yet Gerrard was quite vociferously gesticulating at him in a "just get on with it" kind of way.
Can anyone honestly say we look like we'll improve on our final position last season? Too early to tell but I just don't see much evidence of a consistently effective way of playing. Far too disjointed and careless with the ball. The moments of skill and winning-space that a player in a Villa shirt does provide are rarely anticipated by a team-mate. If Everton are going to be lucky to avoid relegation, shouldn't we be wiping the floor with them instead of clinging-on?

I don't think we'll ever be as bad as we were under Smith last year, or Gerrard for the last 10-12 games. Two games in and we've lost one, won one, with a big improvement this week. Not everybody's firing on all cylinders yet, but we've dominated possession in both games.
