Loved the 3 points always do so thank you Steven and boys. But bloody hell that was painful. Didn’t see any rhyme or Rhythm in that display. It was far too much Southgate type of football. Fullbacks standing wide 20 yards in opposition half and tapping it back. Not sure what Steven is doing or where he’s going.

Thought so too, mate.

Buendia should be the heartbeat of this team, and he will be. I want more from Digne, and for Cash to look up more often when putting crosses in.

Up the fucking Villa!

Thought it looked like two very ordinary teams first half, we didn’t move the ball quickly enough and they were very dull.

Second half we upped the tempo, all 3 midfielders did very well and we looked completely in control when Buendia came on.

Very nervy last 5 mins, we really need to be able to defend route one balls a lot better than we did, they could have had 4 after we scored our second. And they were shit.

Good win but lots to improve on.

Thats better. Though the last 10 minutes was the most Villa thing ever.

Scores on the doors

Martinez - 8 not a huge amount to do but stood up well in those last few minutes with some key saves and time wasting.
Cash - 6 got forward well but caught a couple of times late on
Carlos - 7 very solid doesn't waste possession up until his late injury
Mings - 8.5 MoTM - superb
Digne - 5 thought our poorest performer defensively today though did get in some good attacking positions
Kamara - 8 wow this guy gives us something we've missed for years, very impressed
Ramsey - 7 started well faded out of the game then sprang to life second half, good ball carrying
McGinn - 7 ran himself ragged but his delivery into the box with time and space left a lot to be desired but better passing than the last few times Ive seen him
Coutinho - 7 - he does slow us down a bit but other than one misplaced pass he was tidy efficient and skilful on the ball.
Watkins - 7 - 2 assists, ran himself into the ground and whilst he's struggling in front of goal the workrate was phenomenal, he ran Tarkowski and Coady ragged.
Ings - 7 - goal good link up play and much better

Subs

Buendia - 8 - game changer from the bench absolutely brilliant and great goal
Chambers/Konsa/Young - 6 did what they needed to get us over the line
Bailey - 6 nice little cameo shame we couldn't have used his pace a bit more.

Gerrard - 7 set up was constructive, good subs (though a bit confused at the end) which goes to show if you have strength on your bench use it for the last 30 minutes it can change games. Its not quite clicking yet but I think with more fine tuning this team will grow and be more competitive.

Fans - 8 pretty good support today.

Overall, a good first home performance and something to build on for next week.

Oh and after 15 years of Smart Motorway Roadworks on the M6 from West Mids up to the North West, they've finally finished!! Hallelujah....

How much better with Buendia on, running between the lines, creating options. Watkins, hmmm.
On another note, crap service at bars in the Upper Trininty and build up / entrance  music is too loud.

Very pleased with the result in a game we largely controlled until the 87th minute.

Felt first half the shape was still guilty of the midfield being too wide and not narrowing up for underlaps for either full back or creating space for them.

That said, the full backs were able to push on and put some crosses that were beyond the 18 yard line.

Coutinho didn't ever get into the game for me. He's got to.drop deeper at times into 8 or 6 and Emi coming on really helped us exert further control second half.

We should have scored a few more and Ollie wasted a few good opportunities to put Ings in or score himself.

Kamara was very impressive again, felt Mings did ok, although he misjudged a ball before the corner where the goal was disallowed.

The weather had a big impact in fairness. Incredibly warm and the tempo dropped, unsurprisingly. That said, Everton were poor and despite the panic at the end, we deserved to win. Everton will do very well to stay up.

Yup, this isn’t the US of A. Turn it in and let the atmosphere build.

Very pleased with the win and our improvement in the second half which was due to Buendía replacing Coutinho. Some people say that Coutinho can't play away from VP, but if he keeps that up he won't play at VP either.

Everton were not threatening until we switched to panic mode near the end and even then Watkins and Bailey could have sewn it up. To be fair, Watkins put a shift in and Ramsey drove us forward;  still not convinced by Digne.

Martínez kept a cool head whilst the defence panicked and also did his usual effective time wasting. We all turn a blind eye but we'd be going bonkers if it were the opposing keeper.

Every player was better than last week.
Of the key roles....Mings was as solid as is possible for him to be and formed a great partnership with Diego...Buendia was outstanding in his industry, vision and creativity... and Kamara is pure class. Even in difficult situations he made something positive happen and cleaned up all the mess created by others. What a player!
Great to get the win and 3 points on the board.

Today us something we can hopefully build on. Also someone mentioned the club were charging 90p for tap water. I didn't notice that though.

Ramsay was man of the match
no he wasn't , both Mings and Kamara were awesome for whole game, Ramsay played in patches. That  block by Mings near the end was magnificent and  a matchwinning one

Agreed.

Can anyone honestly say we look like we'll improve on our final position last season? Too early to tell but I just don't see much evidence of a consistently effective way of playing.

Far too disjointed and careless with the ball. The moments of skill and winning-space that a player in a Villa shirt does provide are rarely anticipated by a team-mate.

If Everton are going to be lucky to avoid relegation, shouldn't we be wiping the floor with them instead of clinging-on?
