When Gerrard says that McGinn's place isn't guaranteed just because he's captain, would half time in the first game of the season be too soon to replace him?

Danny Ings is getting himself into good positions.

Defensive growing pains without Mings?

McGinn is shit. Should be nowhere near the starting 11 when Buendia is on the bench.

Agreed, Buendia or no Buendia.

Instead SG thinks he’s captain material at the expense of our best centre-half.

I don't know why he picked Konsa over Mings

Don’t know why he picked him over Chambers based on pre season form

Absolutely agree with this.

We still love that long ball down the wings don’t we?

Chips into the channels, looking for crosses, hoping bobbles in midfield go our way...all a bit unconvincing to be honest.

Oh, THERE'S Coutinho... First time I've seen him this game!

All pretty bad so far... Only player that looks up for it in a Villa shirt so far is Ings.

Languidly passing the ball between ourselves in our own half, like we're Brazil 1970 in the build up to that Carlos Alberto goal, except rather than move forward, at some point we lump it in the vague direction of a 'channel' and lose possession.

Positionally I find Ramsey on the left of the midfield utterly useless and a waste of his talents. Swap him with McGinn.

This might be unpopular, but I'd start Buendia over Ramsay. We just don't have any cutting edge. Our midfield is... aimless again.

We just need to wake up. Not seeing much evidence of us being able to break down sides again… yet

We have had some disappointing opening days down the years: 96-97, 97-98, 03-04, 09-10 spring to mind.
