As the saying goes…”you can’t polish a turd”…but that’s exactly what they’ve tried to do.

No they haven't.
Tbf, they have tried to improve a badge that the club previously went on record as saying:

we know that it doesn’t always stand out as it should in some of the places it is used, and when we look at it vs other Premier League clubs, the most powerful elements of our crest aren’t as powerful as they could be. It needs to look as strong as it can across both physical and digital uses, and from small format to large format uses; so this has to be factored into the design. and

The initial announcement of the review was positively received and supported by consistent feedback that our current crest does not represent our heritage or ambition well enough

And which 8% of fans voted to keep.

So I don't think KRS is too far off in his analysis

Shit means shit. And our crest can never be described as such.

It may not be perfect, but a lion on a shield works. The AVFC thing and that font didn't work as well as it could have, I agree, but it doesn't make it all shit. This new one is far better.

Circle or shield issue aside, as a senior graphic designer who does care about the design choices from the club I love, & who has a little knowledge in the subject to back up my opinion, I think it is very poor design.

Granted design is subjective, but they have made some strange decisions.

And I don't trust the process they used to come up with it either.

I cant be arsed to go any further explaining why, because I have gone over all of it in great detail deeper in the thread.

It's boring. We've not had many worse badges.

To welcome in the 150th anniversary, I'd have liked something a bit more retro.  Not keen on the yellow lion, think I might have gone with claret.  The shield and writing is fine though.  It's Villa and we love them come what may though.

Agree with this.

My hope is the drop shadow is a forerunner to separating the shield (which works well - see all the Adidas pre-announcement stuff) from the lion (which works well - see Heck's blazer).

This thread is now going round and round, not unlike our previous badge in fact…is there any point in keeping the thread open? Nothing’s going to change now…

Is it going round and round clockwise or anticlockwise? I hope it's anti.

Medeiros legend

Always reminds me of that excruciating apearance on Juke Box Jury or whatever it was called at that point.

That's the 80s/early 90s for you.

Matt Bianco = Swap Shop
Glen Medeiros = Juke Box Jury
