It’s ok. Prefer the version on the montage with the detailed lion and like the fact it’s got Aston Villa written on it instead of AVFC on the old shield.
I’ve a feeling they ditch last seasons badge as it’ll save a few quid when they just stick a transfer over all the shields around the ground, rather than replace them.
I'd suspect whilst cost is a factor, there's also consistency. For example whilst ford periodically update their logo, it's basically been the same for near enough 100 years

I pick Ford, you could equally say McDonalds or anywhere really

Moving to a round badge having had a shield badge for almost our entire history makes no sense in those sort of terms, you lose all the brand recognition, it wasn't particularly distinctive over Chelsea's badge etc etc

I was (genuinely) thinking recently how the Ford logo looks shit and out of date.

Some won't care, and that's fine. Some are caught up in the feel good factor of Emery and the team. And that's fine.

But it is such an insult to our intelligence to deliver this. One thing was absolutely crystal clear- there was a huge desire to get away from the 2007- era badge, to at the very least update the colour of the lion if nothing else.

To do that in 2022 only to then revert back a year later to the old badge we were to get away from and try to dress it up as a new rebrand is proof that the club now operates in some sort of 'post-truth' manner with its own fans (customers?).

Some are so easily insulted, and that's fine. Some are obsessed about something that really isn't that important, and that's fine too.

And there really wasn't the huge desire you're talking about, other than from a few people.

The club operates in the way it wants, in a way they think is best, with the best of intentions to do things in a particular way. There has been engagement with fans, despite people thinking there hasn't, in the same way as last season's engagement. It's all pretty much lip service.

The badge on last season's shirt was shit and looked worse and worse as the season went on. And we looked too much like Chelsea.

Everyone has a view, and so whatever result is produced, there will be unhappy people. All this 'post-truth' just makes you sound a bit Trumpy, which suggests to me the club are getting it right.

It's a fair point. https://x.com/AVL8ton/status/1796440600478360005

I hope to never see that image again, the new one is demonstrably worse and having it side by like that really highlights it.

Well actually, the club said there was, quite clearly after the first consultation. I posted it above.

The lion faces the correct way and we haven't been fed some bullshit as to it faced the wrong way. I've said before the text and number don't look right but overall it's decent enough. Reality is that no badge is ever going to have universal approval in a fanbase.

This one?

I think they’ll argue that they used the same consultation that informed last years round badge.
The round badge had to be changed, it looked far too similar to Chelsea’s current badge

I don't think so. After that consultation the club said this:

"The initial announcement of the review was positively received and supported by consistent feedback that our current crest does not represent our heritage or ambition well enough. By allowing you to vote on our next club crest now, and by completing this process in Autumn 2022, we will be in a position to go into the 2023/24 season with a club crest we are all proud of and that reflects our shared ambitions for the future of our club."

So what have we ended up with? A slightly tweaked version of the same badge.

That just says the previous one didn't work well enough. So they've tweaked it. It now says Aston Villa, has the year we were founded, and is more polished (in my view).

We can argue all we like, but the newer round one was shit, and the older round one was more fondly remembered by those of a certain age.

We've had a shield most of our existence, a lion facing the right way, and now our name back on it. I hate the star, despite most people saying they wanted it. I also like 'Prepared' and would have been happier to have it on there, but this new one is simple and less cluttered without it.

I suspect we'll see the standalone lion in places, and various colours in line with the released info from earlier.

The new crest is horrible, but could easily be fixed. background changed to claret, lion changed to blue and writing and star (if we have to have it I'm in the don't want it camp) in yellow.

The current crest looks more like a Coventry crest than a Villa one, Claret is out main colour and yellow should be the least used colour but this monstrosity has more yellow than there is claret.

Is this what we're going to do now, spend years talking about what it could have looked like? Yes, the alternative possibilities are endless, lots of them better (in Graham Internet's opinion), but really, it's here, it's not changing for the foreseeable future. Time to get on with something, anything else now.

Yes, I know I could just avoid this thread.

Yeah, but you can't. It draws you in despite yourself.

I've made my peace with it

Interesting video montage, supposedly released on Villa FB page and then deleted

edit - looks like it's still on FB to me

I really like the ones black & white/grey & black/white & claret - those without "skeuomorphism"

In the not too distant future, man's very existence will lie with the machines arguing themselves into war over the badge.
