These injuries are such a pisser.
What are the odds on 4 midfielders out at once.

Probably pretty decent when 3 of them are Booby, Onana and Barkley. It's more of a surprise when all 3 are available for a game.

It depends on whether three of those midfielders are Kamara, Onana and Barkley.

So is the situation:
Kamara out all season
Onana back this week
McGinn back in 2 weeks?

Where’d you get McGinn info from? I’d guess he’s at least 6 weeks - 2 months.

Yes 6 for normal people but being a Jock McGinn only needs a third of the time.

I think the Onana "back this week" referred to his return to training, not playing, if I read Unai's interview correctly.

Well there’s two articles today with the same sources as the Kamara News who say Villa are optimistic McGinn will return soon although they don’t specify when.

Well that would be a boost. Saying that Kamara was out for 3 weeks last Monday.

That is very true. I would imagine you could count the games on one hand. You could say it was the nature of a midfielders tackling role, especially someone with long stretchy legs like Onana but Kamara hardly seems to dive into  tackles that much

To be fair to Barkley a good chunk of his time out with us was due to personal issues that by in large seemed very much justified.

He is such a brilliant squad player when fit. Losing him to make room in the Summer would make sense, but it's a hell of comfort seeing his name on the subs list.

Reckon that "gradual return to training" and "crucial part of our team" might mean the same thing depending on who else is available.

Indeed.

It's a safe bet that at least two of that triumvirate are out at any one time, sadly.

A real gut punch to see Kamara go off as early as he did last week due to that blockhead Pauline.

Think we all knew deep down it would be a lengthy one. As a rule, CM players of any standing need to be tough and durable. Those three are talented in different ways, but the above description doesn't really apply.

Maybe we make European football again at the end of the season, maybe we don't. But going into next season with Bouba and Onana as our main central midfielders would be reckless based on the amount of time they spend unavailable.
