I’d argue they are two years late with this. I don’t think he’s been at his best this season, but the balance with Onana and the latter’s form has been more important.

I agree LV.  I hope the suspension gave him a bit of a break so he comes back bigger and better.  Quality player and if he gets back to his very best, we will grab a top 4 place.  Interesting, because Tielemans hasn't been at his best recently either. I look forward to both of them getting back to being brilliant.  When they are all fit and firing, I honestly think that we have a quality midfield, befitting of a Champions League side.

The drop off in our win % without him his startling. The stats backing up what we know regards how key he is to us.

‘Top top player’ as Merse would say.

Yep really food to see this laid bare, I had been wondering what the difference was for a while given the facts associated with Unai's full seasons:

-Bouba available August-February in 2023-4: we are comfortably top 4 and even better than that until early January
-Bouba unavailable February to May in 2023-4: we splutter over the line with patchy results
-Bouba unavailable or unfit August to December 2024-5: we're inconsistent, mid table and struggle to manage games dominantly
-Bouba comes back January to May 2024-5: we go on a winning run and shoot up the table

There are of course other factors in all those fluctuations in form but he's a common denominator. The only period we've done well without him was in Unai's first half season when he missed a good chunk of our end of the season winning run. The much maligned Leander Dendoncker did a reasonable job of covering his loss then weirdly and we didn't concede much.

It seems people are starting to take notice of how good he is now, hence this article. I always tell fans of other teams that he is our best player, most of them barely know he exists. Cretins.

I would say he's being noticed more because with us having two defensive midfielders in our current formation, he does have the freedom to get involved a little bit more up the field.  When it was him and Dougie, it was Dougie that had licence to roam forward, while Bouba invariably stayed back.  These days, he gets a few opportunities each game to break forward knowing his partner will stay back.   Those forays mean he's more likely to catch the eye.  And when he's caught their eye, they then notice all the unglamorous work he does so well.

I geniunely think this article doesn't get written if he doesn't score that belter against Wolves, even though it's only 0.1% of what he means to this team.
