I'm not surprised. He's a pragmatic. Boring looks to grind out 1-0 wins.
Also practicing for Liverpool and having backs to wall defending. Gosh wish season was over.
Back to the 3-5-2 is it?
This guy Gerrard ain't fooling me!

I believe he is.

I have to say I was surprised with the result as didn't see that win coming based on Burnley form and stakes .
Credit though the team and coaching staff to out together a system and performance to comfortably win.
Of course quality told and that showed
It also shows Buendia is one to have in the outset very much so.
Great win and it was good that I was fooled into thinking be a tepid effort by the boys when very much wasn't.
Up the Villa!

Hold on Nostradamus. A little while ago you were lauding someone's team selection without Buendia?

Not sure how far off Marv is, but I would be tempted to have him and Tim in the middle with three in front.

Emi

Cash
Chambers
Mings
Digne

Marv
Tim

McGinn
Phil
Olly

Ings

This from you -
That's an excellent suggestin and line up

Since then Buendia started and was man of the match. People are allowed to update their opinions.

Not much to dislike there, very tidy three points. Buendia impressive.

I'm so grateful we won! I thought we had to fight and was pleasantly surprised at how much we got stuck in and contested high balls and stuff like that. Burnley did play some nice stuff in patches and again we had to compete against that too. I don't know how straightforward it is to set up against both styles.

I've not given Gerrard buckets of praise so far but really, really impressed he benched Coutinho and started Buendia today. That was a tough call, but the right one. I think Buendia should keep the starting spot going forwards - my MOTM today.

Watkins had his best game for ages too.

It's the gusto with which FV shares his important insights and opinions I have issue with.

Slight criticism: Martinez needs to improve his distribution.

It's the gusto with which people seem to pile onto him that I find unpalatable.

Very pleasing and very comfortable performance

Positives:

McGinn and Luiz far more effective as 8s with Chambers sitting. There were certainly times when McGinn sat in at full back to cover, but only when we were 2 up in the first half and it made good game management sense.

Luiz isn't a 6, but looks for more like it at 8.

Chambers did well defensively, little hurried in possession, but my only criticism is I don't think he's mobile enough against sides who might want to play through us more.

You could see their tactic though of early diagonal balls into Barnes and that other carthorse and we just smothered it with ease.

Mings was very dominant, full backs were excellent too.

Emi Buendia was easily man of the match too. Such a pest off the ball and effective on it.

Negatives: didn't think Konsa was as seemless as he ought to have been. Iffy moment in the first half and at fault for the goal, which in turn was the only negative.

Excellent result and performance.

I know nothing about FV bar being a poster on H&V.  I don't know why he should be afforded more leeway to talk a load of old toot on here than anyone else. One moment he's complimenting a proposed line up minus Buendia and then post match he's telling us he's an essential starter.  I think he needs to take stock on the way he graces us with his pearls of wisdom. That's all.

A solid win, Buendia was excellent. I certainly thought Burnley would show up - they were pig awful. Doomed unless they rediscover some fight.

Much stiffer tests ahead.

People don't really do that anywhere else on here or with anyone else though.
