Veltman's scissor tackle on Coutinho was reminiscent of Mee's on Wesley. I don't think clogging centre backs like Villa using Brazilians. Veltman should have walked not just for the tackle, which only earned him a yellow, but for the fact he kicked the ball away as well. That referee is in no way equipped for top level officiating.

For those that saw the game how did Bissouma do?  Did he show enough to want to go all out to get him in the summer or do we look elsewhere for that #6 role?

He was neat and tidy with the ball but I didn't think he stood out at all to be honest Gareth.  Brighton had a lot of the ball and crossed quite a lot into our box but failed to trouble us.  They way they play, crosses into the box, they need a bigger centre forward to attack the balls in.  Bissouma is arguably one of the reasons why they had a lot of the ball but didn't look massively dangerous.

He also lost a 50/50 block-tackle with JJ on the edge of their box, which nearly led to JJ scoring.  If that has been our DM losing a tackle like that against an attacking midfielder, I'd be furious.  JJ did well, but in that situation a proper top class DM should be winning those.

We all make predictions. I thought we'd lose, I saw the team I still thought we'd lose.

But then McGinn was immense but Luiz was terrible, Brighton were terrible. Watkins was terrible apart from his goal but he took it so well.

We all want to win but when the result falls either way, thumbing your nose and "told you so" is for the opposition.

I have to hold my hands up and admit I got it wrong. I predicted a narrow win, didn't expect it to be by 2 clear goals.

Very comfortable win. Brighton are utterly tedious and toothless.

Nice shape out of possession nullified them entirely, while we closed the gaps in midfield to be more effective going forwards.

Ramsey had a great chance in the 1st half, Sanchez made a wonderful save from Coutinho's free kicks in the 2nd.

McGinn a lot more like it before he dropped to 6. Dougie wasteful in possession and a bit too casual for me.

Grateful for the delayed kick off! Seen a couple of very accidents today, barriers up on the M6 around Stafford and and then a car upturned on the way back by Heathrow.

Massive three points, with the nice bonus of a clean sheet which can be totally credited to the defence as Martinez was untroubled. McGinn was much improved and although I didn’t think much of Watkins overall performance that goal might give him the confidence to get back to his best.

I still don’t think that is our best team (Luiz in particular needs to be dropped) but hopefully this gives us a platform to build on. Fingers crossed going forward we will see some more squad rotation so we can give everyone a chance before the summer.

I agree with this. McGinn was miles better today. Ollie wasn't achieving much and lacked control before scoring but the forward pair worked hard.

Cash took his goal really well, but was a bit iffy at times and Luiz was careless. Having said that, it was a much improved performance overall.

I thought Brighton were a bit like us last week, more possession but little impact and cohesion. We nullified any real  threat and our defence looked much more solid.

Of course it is. He could have made the same gesture but left the shirt partly on. That doesn’t get a booking. In other words, you don’t need to get booked to make your point.

Only watched on a stream but from that I felt that the full backs stayed at home a lot more than usual in terms of their average positions, meaning Ramsay and SJM were behind them a lot less. Hence McGinn’s marked improvement?
