Only watched on a stream but from that I felt that the full backs stayed at home a lot more than usual in terms of their average positions, meaning Ramsay and SJM were behind them a lot less. Hence McGinn’s marked improvement?

That's how I saw it, too.

The only real downer was that I thought Luiz still managed to look really poor. His passing was frequently awful.

Absolutely and as per usual. Just imagine how wrong I'd manage to be if I ever got married.
Haha...I think you deploy a very successful trial and error method whilst providing a greater opportunity to many when it comes to partners.

Better. Nit amazing, but better

Notable shout outs to Mings Konsa Cash and SJM. Luiz needs a stint on the bench. Sanson looked decent when he came on and deserves a start.

Front two again poor, but Watkins took his goal very well.

Gerrard mentioned the subs did well in interviews afterwards, so perhaps a Sanson start is coming. He shows good touch.

Look at that Mings pass. He looked for Watkins and was world class disturbiton. Commentator called it a big punt! SG clearly got them working on their shooting and passing I think in coming weeks we could be having lot more pleasure and entertaining fair.
Southampton Leeds and West Ham will all give up opportunities for goals and we have to take advantage. These passes by Mings sometimes are the best way out of things
Brilliant!

Fair play Footy, you have the courage of your convictions, and I am usually with you in spirit.

The Mings long pass is often decried on here by lesser mortals than you and I.

SG needs to take Luiz out of the team for a few games. The guy is clearly struggling. Give Sanson a start ffs!

Watched the highlights. Great to see how everyone looked delighted when Watkins scored. Especially Ings.

Great result - really good to see Watkins score.  Only saw the highlights was it like a Diamond that we played - were Ings and Watkins any better together? Wondering if Emi2 will come back in next game

Footy I think said elsewhere that he's had an 'excellent summer' and thats a good point. He hasn't had much of a break really and he probably needs taking out for a few games for that alone as well as his form.

I think some people are being over critical about the performance. Brighton keep it very tight and don’t lose many - you’re not going to go there and be allowed to play expansive Brazil 1970 style football. It was a comfortable away win and a clean sheet against tough opposition and our out of form striker scored a very good goal. What’s not to like?

Pretty much last week in reverse, I thought. They had tons of possession but struggled to make chances. We still made a few mistakes but it was far more disciplined than recent games both in and out of possession and we scored a couple of really good goals. Mings long ball to Watkins was a throwback to last season and he finished it well. Hopefully it will have settled a few jitters.

When we seem to set out to be disciplined and obdurate, we can be a very effective team.

We should do it more often.

I’m sure if John Stones would have played that ball it would have been a clever pass and not a long hopeful punt, as MOT put it.

Called by Ashley Williams, a player judging another player by the limits of his own ability.

Tyrone has had that ball to Watkins in his locker since we signed him, it was the same ball that got the Sheff Utd player
sent off in Watkins first game.

Any reasonable defender should be able to defend a ball like that. Can only imagine the reaction on here if Mings had been the defender at fault.

I didn't see the game but was totally against Ings/Watkins being given another go. How did they do as a partnership?
