Great 1st half performance
Great defence 2nd half.
Everton were always going to up it and throw everything at us, so I don’t think it was our drop in performance
Tyrone should not have been booked either.

Good stuff that game was always going to be tricky, that’s an important win.

Pleased with the win. Hated the 2nd half, we may have battled well but we don’t half make it difficult for ourselves with sloppiness throughout. Bundia, MOM again. Cash not far behind.
Everton will hoof their way out of trouble as their physicality is greater than others down there.

Good for Coutinho to get some minutes in the legs.

We rode our luck in the second-half, but winning ugly has been one of things we needed to improve, so a good result.

Thought Watkins and especially Mings were poor.

He was booked for being fouled by Richarlison - backed into him when hew already in the air for the header. Apart from that, barring a couple of misplaced passes/clearances (which most of our players also did), from what I saw, he hardly put a foot wrong.

Think my blood pressure has started to come down a bit now, don't won't to go through another 45 mins like that for a while, still under the circumstances a very good 3 points.

UP THE VILLA

Good for Coutinho to get some minutes in the legs.

Sure but he is a long way from being fully fit.

Valuable win when playing badly. Watkins is a real concern, he was dreadful. McGinn was shite as well.

Result aside, that was a rotten performance. Two really poor teams. Everton have to be in real danger of going down. Cash shut down Gray really well, Digne was very good. Konsa and Luiz solid. After that, individually and collectively poor. How McGinn lasted 96 mins is a mystery.

Martinez 6 - very little to do
Cash 7 - shut down Gray really well, liked his cynical yellow that McGinn was at fault for
Konsa 7 - solid as always
Mings 5 - so many mistakes and poor decisions
Digne 7 - to be fair, he does look an improvement on Targett
Luiz 7 - solid performance in front of back 4
Ramsey 6 - some very good moments in first half but quiet in second half
McGinn 3 - rubbish
coutinho 5 - some nice touches in first half, no impact in second
Buendia 6 - see Countinho but got the goal
Watkins 4 - gets into good positions but again wasted pretty much every opportunity. His first touch is rotten.

Chucky and Ings hardly got a kick. Hause at least won a few headers. Gerrard was far too slow to make changes and very fortunate not to pay the price.

Some really harsh scores!

Mings 5 for keeping a clean sheet.

Not McGinn's best game but a 3.

That's ridiculous.

Disappointed we couldn't keep the first-half performance going, but some sort of reaction was to be expected. They threw everything at us in the second half, and we held firm.  They had chances, but I don't think Emi has had a proper save to make bar that one he palmed away from Mings' head?

It was a nervous last 15, and would have liked to see us kill them off on the break, but it didn't look like we actually wanted to score a second, and were happy sitting back and stopping them scoring.

Very good to watch, first half more so, as it was 100mph, back and forth. The ref largely let the game flow. We edged it all told, rarely troubled.

Second half was more of a grind, but still feisty. I enjoy games like this, even if quality can be a bit thin on the ground.

Emi2 shone for me, Ramsey too. Mings is a worry and if we're in the hunt for a CH, it's honestly got to be a step up from Tyrone, or at least genuine competition. I think McGinn gave us a bit more bite and aggression that Sanson might have struggled to supply, so in all we kept a grip on midfield. It wasn't his best as far as going forward by any stretch but we needed that snarl/backside today.  Douglas is still an issue, but still has something to offer in the 8 position.

And in terms of Emi2 getting a headed goal to win it, that's been coming. He's surprisingly good in the air. I think he's quality and I look forward to the run-in.

Phil looks a few weeks off fitness and once the players get on his wavelength we'll see more. I think the pace of the game was a bit frantic for him at this stage. I think he'll have a better time of it back at VP.

Good win. Deserved on the whole. Probably a lot tougher than had they still had Rafa in charge. In fairness Big Dunc got them putting a proper shift in. I really don't see the point in Richarlison apart from his ability to moan. Thankfully DCL was about as fit as Coutinho was. Bottle throwing bellends aside, I don't mind Everton too much in the grand scheme, and we're often scrapping around on par with them year on year, give or take.

4 pts from the last two is a decent return because these are tough games. We don't generally like Goodison and we hate playing Utd. Circumstances with Ferguson coming in were also a potential banana skin. More good progress from Gerrard's side. I think a summer window and pre-season could see a very good season next year.

If Big Dunc long ball is what Everton fans have so desperately yearned for then by god they are in big big trouble. Great win and lovely to do the double over them, something we frequently did in the 90s.

Most of Everton's best moments came off Mings mistakes. McGinn was absolutely shocking I thought, with and without the ball.

Good result despite a lacklustre second half going forwards.

Buendia looking better and better.

Coutinho off the pace, but the minutes will have helped him a lot today.

Mings was a bit of a liability at times in possession, but we needed his height and he defended the box well.

Fullbacks anonymous second half but ok first half.

Not McGinns best game.

Good performance from Emi 1 and Pickford for them. Could have been more goals from both sides otherwise.

Starting to worry more about both Watkins and ings. They can't play together, but now also look rubbish played alone too.

Luiz anonymous.
