Always a bit of a concern with no McGinn. Sanson needs to step up.
The team is fair enough though with players out. We might actually do them but I wouldn’t bet the mortgage on it.

I think the Ings/Watkins thing won’t be a thing once Coutinho is fit and can start and when we also have Bailey. He’s trying to create that front three with Ollie on the left. Ings is the better natural CF so good service to him and you have a better chance of goals. But it will work itself out.

Yep, one will have to go out once Coutinho is ready to start games unless Gerrard dosen't think he and Buendia can function properly in same time but Emi is starting to fire.

Unless we sign Kante style DM and go 4-2-2-2 but really need 3 in central midfield to properly control games.

Ings and Watkins again. This doesn't work.
Would rather have seen one of the Kids start tbh - think Watkins is useless when he plays off ings

It should work because Ings is an out and out striker and Watkins is happy to drop deep and/or go wide.

Let's not pussyfoot around, we will never have a better chance to beat Man Utd at home.

No excuses. No balls ups.

Just beat them Villa.

Good to see Lucas starting and happy with the team, the only downer of course no SJM. 65% going for a Villa win, can't ever remember that happening before against United. Looking forward to seeing Coutinho and going for a Villa win.

We've had better chances when we've been 2 up with about 15 minutes left and blown it every time. Wasn't there also a game under O'Neill when they had someone sent off after 20 minutes and we still couldn't beat them?

Just have to see how it all pans out. I always think the crowd know the history of this fixture and it gets nervous even when we're winning and that transmits to the players who start making stupid errors/decisions.

Second half atmosphere v Leicester was brilliant and really dragged us over the line so that needs to be replicated tonight if we're winning second half.

This is a really big opportunity for Sanson. He's waited long enough for it, but now it's up to him. Play well in a win against these lot and it would be hard to drop him, even for McGinn.  Not sure he'll have enough in the tank to do 90 mins though?

I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Sanson and Digne

And I want to be the first on here to say…

I never dreamt that I would ever see the day when Villa could bring a £146 million player off the bench.

Ohhh that feels gooooooood

Oh ho ho, he's magic you know. Phillipe Coutinho.

Arrives on 65 mins curls one in to the top right corner to make it 3-2.

Coutinho must come on at some point.

Almost certain, short of other subs forcing changes due to injuries.  The question is, how long will he get? I hope it's long enough to make an impression.  Even if he's lacking match-fitness, then I'm sure he could still do a good 30 mins?
