Good work.

On point 8, Persie's hat-trick included two offside goals, and the third was possibly offside as well.

No VAR in those days, of course, so we got cheated.

Couldn't happen today, could it?

VAR RANT:
BOFFIN 1: We’ve got a problem with making wrong decisions in events. What should we do?
BOFFIN 2: I know, we’ll use technology to ensure a consistent and fair system based on a defined, systematic approach.
BOFFIN 1: Sounds good. So the technology will do this for us?
BOFFIN 2: No, it can’t do that, so we’ll have to decide. Otherwise it would lead to an event being hours and hours long as it would review everything.
BOFFIN 1: So how will we decide when to use it?
BOFFIN 2: We’ll have to use it when we feel it’s needed.
BOFFIN 1: How will we know when that is?
BOFFIN 2: We’ll apply it when there’s been a clear and obvious error with a decision.
BOFFIN 1: So just to get this straight; the technology that we’re using to ensure a consistent and fair system, based upon a defined, systematic approach, will only be applied when we decide?
BOFFIN 2: Correct.
BOFFIN 1: So the decision making will be systematic some of the time?
BOFFIN 2: I guess so, but will definitely be applied to decision making when there’s a clear and obvious error, so that’ll be alright.
BOFFIN 1: What are we deciding is a clear and obvious error?
BOFFIN 2: We’ll use this from something called VAR: “There is no unanimity. Different VARS come up with different outcomes. But VAR should not be asking ‘Do I think it’s right or wrong?’ The question is ‘Is what the match officials have done a clear and obvious error. There is a very high bar for that intervention.” That’s from a similar decision-making body and the body which organises events.
BOFFIN 1: So how are we setting this high bar?
BOFFIN 2: As ‘Different VARS come up with different outcomes’ the bar will change from situation to situation.
BOFFIN 1: So every decision could be different?
BOFFIN 2: Correct.
BOFFIN 1: I thought the purpose of this project was to use technology to ensure a consistent and fair system based upon a defined, systematic approach?
BOFFIN 2: As I’ve explained, it will systematically be applied ...when we decide.
BOFFIN 1: What if we need more time to make a decision?
BOFFIN 2: With the technology and system as we've outlined it, it should be fairly swift.
BOFFIN 1: Because of the system as we've outlined?
BOFFIN 2: Yes. But to get the right decision, we’ll take as long as is required as we want to ensure the decision is right.
BOFFIN 1: Sounds good. How will we decide what should take more time?
BOFFIN 2: ‘Different VARS come up with different outcomes’ so that bar will change from situation to situation.
BOFFIN 1: If it takes a long time to make a decision, does that not suggest a problem with the algorithms we’re deploying?
BOFFIN 2: No, because ‘Different VARS come up with different outcomes’ so the algorithms will have to change from situation to situation.
BOFFIN 1: Right, so to make things clear, we’ll outline the defined, systematic system…
BOFFIN 2: Yes.
BOFFIN 1: … and make sure that people are trained in using it…
BOFFIN 2: Yes.
BOFFIN 1: …along with detailing what decisions are made…
BOFFIN 2: Correct.
BOFFIN 1: …and why we’ve made those decisions?
BOFFIN 2: No.
BOFFIN 1: Why would we be transparent about everything else but that part?
BOFFIN 2: (no answer).
BOFFIN 1: Boffin 2?
BOFFIN 2: (no answer).
BOFFIN 1: It’s clearly obviously something we should do?
BOFFIN 2: Today no, tomorrow maybe yes, who knows.
BOFFIN 1: And you think people will like this?
BOFFIN 2: They'll love it.

Man Ure and us.

1. 1992-93- Fergie time against Wednesday. Denied us a title more or less.
2. Signing Yorke in 1998 when we were genuine title challengers.
3. Signing Bosnich in 1999 only to bin him soon after.
4. The 2002 FA Cup tie when we conceded three late goals to lose 2-3.
5. The 2010 League Cup final when we were cheated by corrupt officiating when Vidic was not sent off.
6. The 2-2 at Villa Park in 2010-11 when we again lost the lead late on after a terrific performance.
7. Them signing Young.
8. The home game in 2012-13 when we again lost a lead.
9. The away game in 2012-13, Van Persie hattrick.
10. Red nose pointing at his fucking watch on  multiple occasions.
11. So many FA Cup third round games.
12. When we got relegated in 2016 it had to come at their place.
13. Tonight's corruption.

C**ts.

Somewhere between 4 and 5:

That last game of 2004/5 against them, in O'Leary's first season. We needed a point to finish 5th above Newcastle and get into the UEFA Cup. We should have had two penalties but of course didn't, and then had two goals disallowed, one for a Man U player running into one of his team mates and knocking him over with a Villa player nowhere near.

We've just played two crap teams and lost. And why are we down in 13th place with the players we have. Have we really got the 13th best squad in the Premier league. I don't think so.

I think we can rant justifiably about Oliver and VAR; we have had some VAR decisions go our way but it doesn't make the one last night any better.

However, this is a relevant point. We have dominated the last two games against poor opposition and we have still managed to lose both with defensive frailties and a lack of finishing, and not solely from the forwards.

With Watkins not firing and the other main goal contributors from last season either gone or on the fringes of the squad, we have a clear goal deficit and the midfield isn't stepping up with enough goals given the amount of chances.

It is a concern, I feel despite a lot of good work we do getting into good positions, we don't work the opposition keeper nearly enough.

And also more recently, Fernandes fouling Konsa and John Moss giving a pen at VP when it was 0-0, and Pogba tripping himself up to win another pen and a 2-1 win - both VAR and referees not referred to the monitor.

Copied from FA Cup game last night.. but I need this “rant thread”
My apologies to start with if I don’t know who I may upset. But what can we fans do about the situation with VAR & Manure. I sit as an old bloke season ticket holder in the Witton Lane and will be there Saturday. But I get so pxxxed off with Manure ( like many others ) lording it over VP.
I did notice the Villa away fans chant “ you are not fit to referee “ which was commented by BBC commentators .
Is it possible for The Holte End to start a chant about the injustice of obvious bias towards the Sky 6 favourites. Especially as it is Televised to the football fans sitting on their backsides somewhere in the world.
Perhaps this should go in “ rant” topics . Thanks for allowing me to get my rant over.

Listened to the 1874 podcast the other day. I am so fed up of Greg Evans and his general negativity. I gave up listening in the summer when it was clear that he was foaming at the mouth to see Joe leave to the highest bidder.

This past week, with the signings of Coutinho and Digne, I have binged a lot of Villa content and thought I'd have a crack at 1874, love Bardell and the new presenter Holly is a refreshing voice.

I lasted 8 minutes before Evans reminded me of exactly why I stopped listening in the first place.

Speaking about the transfer of Coutinho, the conversation went something like this...

Bardell: Obviously a different player but would you say this is the closest we'll get to a Grealish replacement?

Evans: (sighs) How many more times are we going to say this? This is the fourth player they've brought in and so far none of it has worked.

I understand being rational, but this is negativity for the sake of it. Not only that, but you were desperate for him to leave. I get it, he's a baggies fan... But there's really no point in him being on a Villa podcast, or reporting on the club at all, when he's always got such a downer on Villa. How many of us would love to do his job? Where it seems to actively get under his skin to see us doing well?

Agree about Bardell, he’s a great presenter, great Villa fan and always come across as a kind-hearted fella.

Ditto.

To be honest, I thought Gregg Evans was actually a Tesco bags fan; he just covers Villa. If this is incorrect then somebody please let me know.

Would explain why he's quite often down on Villa and doesn't get het up over things that a fan would get het up over.

I don't think it hurts having non-Villa fans reporting on us in the local press, you want someone to get to the bottom of issues when they crop up, not some cheerleader like Colin Tattum, who ends up on the clubs payroll after years of lickspittling.

But on the same token, don't put some swivel-eyed, stripey degenerate in the role for the opposite reasons. You'd think they'd have learned after putting that arsehole Baggie Bill in before.
