Reminded me a little of the Cup final last year. We gave them too much respect in the first half, had one great chance for an equaliser in the second but ultimately not enough. We actually played a lot better in the second half of this game.

Well done Villa, much better 2nd half, Ollie MOTM superb tonight, if only Chuck could have put that chance away.

First 20 mins they were nice.
Two gaols that we could have stopped.
Second half they were lucky.
Nothing to be ashamed of tonight.

Poor first half, good second half. Deserved something from it.

Ref was weak, let them get away with constant niggly fouls, there was a period in the 2nd half where they kicked us every time we got into their 3rd, he should've taken control and given a yellow card because it was clearly designed to break up play. Pen would've been soft but, as someone said on the match thread, it was more of a foul than the one Kane got against us.

That could have been a pen.

The second half took some grabbing ourselves by ****, and we did,  which gives me confidence.  Ollie was awesome,  Luiz looked better given more responsibility.  Citeh awesome 1st half, we stopped them being that 2nd

Very nervy start. Ironically we kept them at bay in their most dominant spell. Then they scored as we were starting to get into the game a bit more, and from an annoyingly unexpected source. Their second goal was a touch of class.

Second half we were excellent. Beundia had his best game for us overall (based on the second half). Douglas was excellent. Cash very good. Ollie lead the line very well. McGinn raised it up second half.
We can still work on final third decision making and eradicating sloppy passes. Everyone was guilty of that at points today.
Sanson's performance was good too. A nice reminder that we might have a quality player there.

We gave a good account of ourselves. I just fucking hate 'plucky underdog' defeats like this. We deserved a draw.

One particular note... we need to stop pissing about with the passing at the back against pressing sides. Just hit it long and push out. Thankfully, where Dean would have persisted, Gerrard switched tac, and we ended up stretching them by hitting out quicker.

Great response to the first half mullering  - I was thinking 4 or 5 but we came back well and could have snatched a draw. Their bench was fucking mental.

That could have been a pen.

I thought it was a pen but they didn’t spend much time on it. Would’ve been different up the other end. But it looked to me that Ake kicked Konsa in the back of the leg and Konsa actually kicked the ball out even though a corner was given.

A disappointing result for me. Could have nicked a point and that's what the team deserved.

Chucky should have scored but he'll learn.

The second half performance was much better and there were some positives.

Buendia still struggling.

I thought overall we did well against a very good side. Targetts injury stopped our flow a bit which was a shame, plenty of effort throughout and some good / improved performances from players that were not playing great earlier in the season.
