Back in the summer, I'd have have gladly sold him to the Irons or the Eagles.

Now he's got his shooting boots on I hope he can help us improve our goal difference in comparison with the teams around us. I'd like to see us with the plus fours at least.

Has he signed his new contract yet, or is there still a fairway to go before negotiations are concluded?

Probably his last big contract.  I'd assume on a reduced wage given the duration and him being about 33 when it expires.

We now need to find a young alternative to be the succession plan.
Garcia?

Rowe for me, he looks an excellent prospect.

Signed, there's a pic of him on Pravda with Unai and Damian. Amazing that he'll end-up spending almost the entire 2020s with us unless he's sold during the course of this new deal.

Happy to see him go at the end of last season, but he’s started this season strongly, fair dues to Matty.

I still think there is an element of "protecting an asset" when these new contracts are given out - especially if we're not talking big wage increases.  Like Buendia's extension before going on loan to Germany/  It seems to be the pattern that we don't let saleable assets get into the last year of their contracts.  I can still see him being sold in another year or so (probably around the time his previous contract would have expired). The club has probably decided that his new contract is worth it for the fee we'll get in 18 months/2 years' time.

Or the manager who has picked him when fit for probably for 90% + of the games he has managed at the club and not sought a replacement, actually thinks he does the job he wants him to.

It's an entirely different situation to the Buendia extension.

Delighted he's signed a new contract, has been in the best form of his Villa carreer this season.

Another good display today. He and Digne kept Semenyo quiet as well.

He and Konsa have both gone up a level this season...and that isn't a criticism of what came before.
