Aston Villa v Everton Pre Match thread
« on: September 16, 2021, 10:57:03 AM »
Saturday 18 September KO 5.30PM
Villa Park

So the next episode of the most played top flight fixture between two of the greatest ever English football clubs is here.  This is going to be a good game as it always is when Everton come to Aston. Let's hope Raffa gets it wrong somewhere.

Big game in the context of early results, although perhaps not in the context of the season as a whole. Hopefully the manager will be able to pick his strongest team which will give us a window into what's to come, I also expect the formation to revert to standard.

Everton have had a very good start but we should measuring ourselves against this sort of opposition to judge our progress rather than teams that buy 100 million pound strikers.

I expect a victory, but not a straightforward onr and it will be very tight.

2-1

Notwithstanding the Chelsea perforemance I hope we move back to 4-3-3.  But I'm convinced Smith will want to play two up front.

My line up would be:

Cash   Konsa   Mings   Targett

  McGinn    Luiz     Ramsey

 Buendi    Watkins    Bailey

If Buendia is not fit to start after his travels then I'd go with Traore.

That's what I'd go with, though I'd be tempted to pick a goalkeeper. 🙂

My team too other than I would have Traore in for Buendia.

2-1 Villa - Watkins (2)

For me, the reason our midfield three looked so good last weekend (first half especially) was because they had the extra centre back behind them. This freed Ramsey and McGinn up to bomb on and press high

If we go back to a back four i'm not sure that will work

I'm all in favour of leaving it as it was last weekend, and if any changes have to be made i'd probably drop Ings and throw in either Bailey on Buendia as a floating option alongside Watkins

Coward, you’ll be suggesting 5-3-2 next!

We’ll win this. Everton we’re very poor up to the point Townsend scored that wonder goal and as we’re better than Burnley I think we’ll over power them.

Big game. I fear he will go back to a ratboy formation and we're get mullered in midfield again.. 2-1 more in hope than expectation

4-3-3 for me. A proper one, not that 4-2-3-1 muck:

Martinez (if back in time)
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
McGinn Ramsey Luiz
Traore Watkins Bailey

Get at them from the off, and go in 2-0 up.

I think we will stick with 3-5-2, only change I would make would be Bailey for Ings.

I think this is a much bigger game than we think for the season, and for Smith. Lose this one, we have 4 points going into United and Spurs away, and Chelsea in the league cup. Confidence, and league position going into the international break could be a similar level, with a very decent looking Wolves coming first up after it. Need to win this. I have gone for draw.

Can't see him playing 3-5-2 too be honest. think he did that mainly to counteract Lukaku and their wingback threats. As Calvet-Lewin is out for them, he will revert to a back four, two holding, pace out wide and, I presume Buendia as the playmaker. So

Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett
McGinn, Buendia, Luiz
Bailey, Ings, Watkins
