Saturday 18 September KO 5.30PM
Villa Park
So the next episode of the most played top flight fixture between two of the greatest ever English football clubs is here. This is going to be a good game as it always is when Everton come to Aston. Let's hope Raffa gets it wrong somewhere.
-
Big game in the context of early results, although perhaps not in the context of the season as a whole. Hopefully the manager will be able to pick his strongest team which will give us a window into what's to come, I also expect the formation to revert to standard.
Everton have had a very good start but we should measuring ourselves against this sort of opposition to judge our progress rather than teams that buy 100 million pound strikers.
I expect a victory, but not a straightforward onr and it will be very tight.
2-1
-
Notwithstanding the Chelsea perforemance I hope we move back to 4-3-3. But I'm convinced Smith will want to play two up front.
My line up would be:
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
McGinn Luiz Ramsey
Buendi Watkins Bailey
If Buendia is not fit to start after his travels then I'd go with Traore.
-
That's what I'd go with, though I'd be tempted to pick a goalkeeper. 🙂

My team too other than I would have Traore in for Buendia.
2-1 Villa - Watkins (2)
-

Probably won't need one with the amount of goals that teams gonna score
-
For me, the reason our midfield three looked so good last weekend (first half especially) was because they had the extra centre back behind them. This freed Ramsey and McGinn up to bomb on and press high
If we go back to a back four i'm not sure that will work
I'm all in favour of leaving it as it was last weekend, and if any changes have to be made i'd probably drop Ings and throw in either Bailey on Buendia as a floating option alongside Watkins
-

Coward, you’ll be suggesting 5-3-2 next!
-
We’ll win this. Everton we’re very poor up to the point Townsend scored that wonder goal and as we’re better than Burnley I think we’ll over power them.
-
Big game. I fear he will go back to a ratboy formation and we're get mullered in midfield again.. 2-1 more in hope than expectation
-

They've worn me down!
-
4-3-3 for me. A proper one, not that 4-2-3-1 muck:
Martinez (if back in time)
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
McGinn Ramsey Luiz
Traore Watkins Bailey
Get at them from the off, and go in 2-0 up.
-
A last minute Ashley Young winner, 3-2
-
I think we will stick with 3-5-2, only change I would make would be Bailey for Ings.
I think this is a much bigger game than we think for the season, and for Smith. Lose this one, we have 4 points going into United and Spurs away, and Chelsea in the league cup. Confidence, and league position going into the international break could be a similar level, with a very decent looking Wolves coming first up after it. Need to win this. I have gone for draw.
-
Can't see him playing 3-5-2 too be honest. think he did that mainly to counteract Lukaku and their wingback threats. As Calvet-Lewin is out for them, he will revert to a back four, two holding, pace out wide and, I presume Buendia as the playmaker. So
Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett
McGinn, Buendia, Luiz
Bailey, Ings, Watkins
-
They are unbeaten this season and sitting pretty on 10 points.
With the run of games coming up we really have to be winning this but it’s a tough one.
1-1 and pressure starting to build up on Dean.

It is. But only has himself to blame. 1 point vs brentford and watford is poor
-
Likely Everton will switch to a back 4. They were transformed once Benitez made that switch v Brighton. Really good test for us. Big decision is whether to start Ings or not. Loads of options for Smith.
-
We've generally matched up well v them since promotion.
I think that will continue on Saturday. 2-1 win, Ollie and Bailey.
-

My thinking too. Whilst we might not be all that yet, neither are they. Tight contest with not much in it, but us to win. I'll go 2-0, Bailey and Watkins, plus a nice cameo from Traore that sends us all home smiling. And fancy myself to be on the end of one of many no-nonsense Mings clearances.
-
Due to a rearranged beer festival I'll be supping while checking my phone every five minutes.
2-1
-
Think we will win this one
-
Just noticed there's still tickets available. Thought this would have been a complete sell out? I'd have expected sell outs for every Match this season , quite concerning just three games in
-
Less than 100 tickets available.

I won't sleep tonight for worrying, now.
-
2-1 win. One down early doors, cue much disquiet and arm folding and people predicting Deano out before the clocks go back. Ings and AEG on after 70 mins. Ings with the equaliser on 75 mins AEG with the winner 90+3. Cue Deano being hailed as a tactical genius and the next England manager. Fickle? Us?

There's 95 seats available. I'd guess the vast majority are ST holder resales.
Quite concerning? Get a fucking grip.
-
I would have said 95 seats left out of 42k is pretty much a sellout.
-
There were ninety-seven when I checked about ten minutes ago. At this rate they won't sell out for hours! I'm with Flin5tone, it's a disgrace. I'm writing to the club.
-
I'm writing to the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen.
Dear Mr Echo....

I'd be more concerned about the 2 derliect stands than 90 odd season ticket returns.
-
Fun fact, there are still tickets available for every single Premier League match this weekend (with the possible exception of Brighton, it wouldn't let me check their site without logging on). Even so, I'm still disgusted at Villa fans.
-
2-1 Watkins, McGinn

Over 99.75% of seats sold.
-
It seems as though my post had got the sales moving, now down to single seats only around the ground, 20 odd left .

Still 0.25% left then. Very concerning.

FFS. This is going to make the half time pie queue take even longer! It's a disgrace! 😡

A piss and a pie could take most the second half!

I'll save that for when we play Burnley, then.

It certainly is and hopefully this is addressed Saturday but I won't get my hopes up.
With the Holte Suite being used as a Vaccination Hub the lower Holte End is unbearable and must be a joy for the Virus. Using CANNED Lager which then has to be transferred to a plastic cup takes a couple of minutes to process this all adds up and enhances the problem.

Oh, go on. Give it a try.
-
Blimey this is concerning. And to think some crazy fools talked about increasing the capacity. Dead in the water now.
-

Very good point. I think I'll skip the half-time pint and have a Monster Energy drink instead, I'll need it when cheering all the goals in the 2nd half.
-

Agreed, think we'll batter them in front of an amply refreshed, raucous Villa Park.

Monster? You animal!

This will be my first game for the thick end of two years, can’t wait.
-
We are a bit of a boggy team for them Think this could well be a 0-0. Both teams to be jittery
-
A last minute Ashley Young winner, 3-2
Has that ever happened before?
-

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Nah! We’re going to swamp them!
-
Congratulations to Ollie on the birth of his first child, a girl.
I now expect him to celebrate his first goal with a baby-rocking motion and a proud father's grin.
-
Shot back up to 45 available, seems like a lot of last minute drop outs. 5:30 Kick Off and Televised is probably putting people off.
-
6-2 win and the start of our climb up the table.
-
6-2 win and the start of our climb up the table.
That really takes me back. What a game and a turning point
-
This is tricky, but we really need to start winning games.
-
I will sadly not be able to make this.
we have goals in us, so come on Villa a clean sheet please :)

I predict 17,637 empty seats around Flin5stone.

Shit...doesn't he get parental leave? Good thing we have Ings, I guess.

We'll flush them away

15 seats free in the whole ground.
Also - once a game is sold out, that triggers ST holders' ability to sell their seat for the game, which is probably where those 15 seats are from.
-
I’m taking my 4 year old to his first game tomorrow, although he does think he’s playing and not watching.
I still remember my first, the smell of cigarettes is what really still sticks with me. 1-0 against Chelsea in ‘93 with Atkinson getting the winner. Something similar tomorrow and I’ll be over the moon. I think it’s going to be up there with my wedding day!!
-
Emi M will surely start. I guess it’s more of a judgement call with Emi B.
-
0-2.
-
I predict 17,637 empty seats around Flin5stone.
Is 17,638 the new reduced capacity at The Sty?

17,637 was the attendance when we beat Everton 6-2 on 05/11/89........
-
0-2.
Booooo
*But probably accurate, sadly.
-
we're going to twat them
-
You now have to pay Pravda (by subscribing to VillaTV+) to listen to Dean's presser. A bit rich innit?

Yes, no.
-
Some of it is on our FB Page.
-
It's "free to air" now, strangely!
-
To pay to see it live then it goes up as free a few hours later, I think. I've been subscribed for the last few months so I'm not sure what delay there is.
-
I think this will be another disappointing game for us Villa fans - side is still not settled, more changes tomorrow, they have certainly started well, and I worry if we don’t score early could be a long night.
That said, looking at the table it’s already clear there is a lot of dross in this league and still convinced we will end the season a lot better than we started.
-
1-1
-
The key to a good result tomorrow is stopping Gray and Townsend. I don’t particularly rate either but they have both had a good start to the season so far, and possibly have a point to prove. Keep them both in check and we should get a positive result.
-
Need Targett to put a "reducer" in on one of them. Hope neither are too wiley for Cash, who I believe is still our least convincing starter.
-
My football predictions this weekend were/are:
Barcodes vs Leeds draw
Us vs Everton draw
Spuds vs Chelsea draw
£10 on £400 and some change back. One down, two to go!
-
Would you really prefer us not to win tomorrow? Shut the door on your way out >:(

I love a draw acca. I never bet on our games anymore, but a draw is a sensible prediction. Chelsea will murder Spurs though.
-
I'm down in Woolacombe for the weekend. Does anyone know the best place to watch the game?
-
Can only see a draw 1-1
-

Villa Park.
-
We have to use last weeks positive performance against Chelsea and take it to Everton
3-1
-
Villa to win, and Watkins to score at least one and half the team re-enact the Bebeto baby celebration in front of the Holte! ;)
-
Would you really prefer us not to win tomorrow? Shut the door on your way out >:(
On the rare occasions I bet on Villa I usually bet on us to lose. Doesn't mean I want it to happen.

I hope they do. Sobering to think that the baby being celebrated is now two years older than Ollie Watkins.
-
Fully expecting us to win today. Everton were poor for all but 7 minutes against Burnley and it sounds like we have all the players available today who we want to be out there.
2-1 to us.
-
4-3-3 for me. A proper one, not that 4-2-3-1 muck:
Martinez (if back in time)
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
McGinn Ramsey Luiz
Traore Watkins Bailey
Get at them from the off, and go in 2-0 up.
This is the team i think he’ll go with. He cant afford to drop Martinez, but dont see him rewarding Buendia with a start. Would leave us with Beundia, Ings and Ek Ghazi as really strong attacking options off the bench. Floodlights will be on before the end, has the makings of a potential classic game
-
Ground sold out!
-
Four tickets left again.
-
Four tickets left again.
Worrying times. Is Dean up to the task? Are the owners really as ambitious as they say?
-
Bring back Lambert! We never had to worry about having four tickets left when he was in charge.
-
Four tickets left again.
FFS, how low this once proud club has fallen.
-
Four tickets left again.
Unfortunately Barney, Betty, Wilma and Fred can't make it so have sent theirs back. Still, mustn't grumble.

Ings in for Traore for me. Regardless of who’s right or wrong on that I’m pretty sure it’ll be the case as Smith wont leave Ings out at this point. Agree with the rest of the team though.
-
Bailey on the right
Ings Central
Watkins left
All of them interchanging with McGinn and Ramsey pressing high.
Should have Everton on back foot
-
Wellington in brum is full of villa. Good to see

Good one! I’m outside listening to Everton fans talk politics. Decent sort I would expect in the wellington
-
Four tickets left again.

Pig nose was spot on.
-
Today’s confirmed squad
Steer, Ramsey, Sinisalo, Hause, Cash, Nakamba, Traore, Archer, Watkins, Ings, McGinn, El Ghazi, Konsa, Douglas Luiz, Tuanzebe, Young, Mings, Martinez, Bailey, Buendia
-
No Targett in there?
-
No Targett in there?
If not, then we don't half seem to be unlucky inbetween Smith saying "everybody's OK" in his Friday press conference and then people not being available on the Saturday.
-
I think buendia will be on the bench for this one
I cang wait to see bailey on one side and buendia on the other
-
I'm afraid you'll have to, at least in a starting line up.
