Just a word about AEG; who else can take penalties? He is the ice man. That’s what he brings! I feel that naming him as someone to move on in other threads on here is underappreciating his role in the squad and the team. He is very good at it.

It’s funny how a win can calm you, even in that horrendous traffic getting out.

It was fantastic to be back. I was a bit emosh at the end when sweet Caroline started, it felt like the shit stuff was behind us at long last.

So many people missed that first goal too! That was Steve Bruce 101 from Newcastle. Long ball, nasty, niggly, looking for any foul to gain an advantage. It’s becoming a good old bogey ground for them, and long may that continue.

Our only worrying part was the old guys to our right and in the row in front had been “replaced”. I just hope they’re ok.

Off the mark - plus this 300m we keep on being reminded about -  100m of it wasn’t playing.   Plus joe went which means ithat team today cost us less than 10m a player. Which in today’s mental world isn’t a lot:

I like him usually, but today was the worst I've seen him play. He was pretty anonymous. He looks to have bulked up a bit, wonder if that's affecting him? Agreed, he'd be a bit of a pointless signing now. That sort of money on a DM would get us flying.

Ings took one and scored only last week. His career record is 10 taken,  3 missed. AEG has taken 5 missed 0.

Since we can't wheel on AEG just for pens like they do in American football, I'd rather have a player who contributes more over 90 minutes.

Brilliant to be back today, Matt Targett may struggle to get back into the team as Ash played well. Brilliant finish from Ings, Mings was a rock and after a shaky start Jacob Ramsey grew into the game more and more with some surging runs.

What a strange game!
Villa scored two goals and the Newcastle keeper never had to make a save, our shooting was abysmal!
Ramsey started like a 'rabbit caught in the headlights' absolutely all over the place for about 10 - 15 minutes, then he got better and better as the game progressed, really pleased that he stayed on till the end as that game will do him the power of good.
Buendia is still not fit (or perhaps carrying an injury) and it is blatantly obvious as he is not involved enough and trying to coast through the game!
Ashley Young is class and his experience is invaluable, don't know how Targett will get his place back.
Cash was much improved and great to see.
Luiz started very well but certainly tired in the second half.
El Ghazi was immense for the penalty, besides the absurd long wait for the decision, the Newcastle players were all having a go at him especially the keeper, under the circumstances it was a brilliant penalty, ice cool for the ice man!
Mings was Mings, solid!

Ings had little service as our midfileld (should be Buendia but he went awol) still can't play the ball early enough for Ing's runs off the defenders shoulder. His goal was absolutely brilliant, initially the scoreboard came up with Buendia as the scorer but I knew that was wrong immediately as only one Villa player could have scored that goal and he was Ings! Class finisher!

Overall a win but hardly convincing, still when we do eventually get all our players fit we can make a proper judgement.

it always genuinely amazes me how two people can watch the same game and have completely different views about almost all of it. I suspect it suggests neither of us know what we're on about !!

Buendia I thought looked promising , I didn't see him coasting - rather he was tracking back pretty well

Luiz I thought was sloppy on the ball, lots of misplaced passes and gave the ball away a lot, and an unnecessary booking put him under pressure for the second half.We looked better with him in the side but I hope we see better from him

McGinn had his best game for ages and was hugely influential , MOM for me

Sant Maximin we dealt with fairly comfortably I thought

Wesley - disagree, I thought he looked more athletic and I think disinterested is really harsh

I thought Axel had put on quite a bit of bulk. Looked at lot stronger and more athletic than he did previously.

Just home, a long day but enjoyed it.
M25 meant I missed the first 10 mins and had to leg it 2 miles to the ground.
We played better than them. Buendia hasn’t gelled yet. Mings is a leader. Bruceball football is Neanderthal. Newcastle as a club have few redeeming features. Their fans fighting near the end sums them up. Bring on Brentford.
