And in a portent for his tactics, my mate drove into the hotel car park just as the team bus was parked across the entrance.

Is the dreaded three at the back worth considering here given injuries? Like we saw in the championship, Tuanzebe is more than capable of creating an extra man in midfield with the ball.

------------Martinez
----Konsa, Tuanzebe, Mings
Guilbert, Luiz, Ramsey, Young
--------McGinn, Ings, Buendia

Give McGinn and Buendia a bit more freedom to attack the likes of Clark one on one. Appreciate there is more chance of Sasa Curcic playing ahead of Guilbert under Smith...but Cash can't continue to be an automatic first pick if his poor form continues. Have a horrible feeling Smith will fudge it and put Konsa or Tuanzebe in there instead.

We’re playing Steve Bruce’s Newcastle not PSG. That’s not to be complacent but we know that they’re likely to sit and try to hit us on the break so no need for us to be too negative.
Quite, this would be like a Brucie v McCleish game of chess. Can’t wait!

Just had a shuffle around a Newcastle forum and to a man they all think we'll stuff em!

I think that says more about them than us though...

Important we win this one. Coming out of games against Watford and Newcastle without a win would be a really bad start. It’s especially important we start getting positive results quickly otherwise belief in the post Grealish era will quickly evaporate.

Its going ti be a tough season if we cant beat newcastle at home playing catchup all year esp with with chelsea and united coming up.

Ok, what else shall we talk about before the game? The weather? How you getting there? Where you watching it? Where you going for breakfast?

To be fair, it's quite a conundrum trying to put this team together, I find it quite interesting. For two years now our team has pretty much picked itself.

As for the weather, it might be quite wet!

Who do you think you are, a meteorologist?

Told you it would rain today! My meteorological training took over 90 seconds to make that guess.

I'd give Axel a run out in the DCM slot. replacing Nakamba from last week.

He has the right skill set and has played there before it seems.

I didn't see a great deal of last week but it did look very weak and sometimes non-existent in the middle so let's hope Luiz makes a differnce if he plays.

Other than that, I'd like to see him give Chucky a go. As for the score, 2-2. Ings with both ours.

Looking forward to getting back to Villa Park. Not confident with the players available. Newcastle will play just like Watford last week. Sit deep and play on the break. If Deano sets the team up as he did last week, then we could be in trouble. Hopefully 433. UTV

Can't make today's match and I've tried to re-sell my seat (on my season ticket Villa digital account), but the the only match showing for re-sale is for next week's Brentford match (which I can make).

Anyone more familiar with the system know how to bring up today's match on the digital account or is it too late for this match?

Looks like my mac and wellies will be pressed into service later: they'll look so fetching with the Villa shirt and scarf. 🤣

Can't wait to get going though!
