Here's a thought, let's play everybody in their best positions, one defensive midfielder, two box to box midfielders, two wide men to drift in and Ollie to enjoy some great service whilst running his nuts off:

                            Martinez
       Cash     Konsa      Mings      Young

                         Marvelous

              McGinn                Dougie

        Buendia                             Bailey

                           Watkins

I'm assuming Targett is injured; Watkins will want to play centre forward (as he wants to get in the England squad) and left footed Bailey can play comfortably on the left side. Ings can come on to replace hattrick Ollie on 70 minutes.

4-0 Villa (Ollie 3, Ings).
That's what I'd go for too.

Edit: Just seen Bailey & Watkins out, so maybe not!!

I guess I'd be swapping AEG -> Bailey, Ings -> Watkins.

I reckon that's about the best we could do.  Which challenges the talk of more strength in depth tis year in my humble opinion.

Have a feeling this means we will try Young on the wing again. Hope not.

Why does everyone think that Bailey is out?

What is going on in training? Hope it's untrue about Bailey being injured. Pre-season has been so disrupted with players unfit and coaching staff leaving. This doesn't sound good at all.

Rumours Ollie still out and now so is Bailey
Christ, that's awful luck if true.  3 good fixtures at the start of the season, would be a shame if our disjointed pre-season and injuries kybosh them.

Yep, or possibly JPB on the right and Buendia at 10, but I'd probably go with the above.  Ramsey probably deserves a start after his performance at Watford.

Do we need more forward cover? If Ollie is out, Davis injured, Wesley out of favour, Barry and Brad Young loaned out. That just leaves Danny Ings? It doesn't look good for forward options...

If Bailey and Bert are injured, I hope JPB gets a start

There certainly seems to be a growing anxiety among certain fans that things aren’t going to plan.
I can certainly see it - we finished 11th and the first team looks weaker - although a bit more depth in the squad.  Plus the assistant managers leaving.
For me the issue is there is all this talk of us becoming an elite club has set a lot of people’s expectations very high - and a year of no progress risks us losing other key players - is this one of those other times in our recent history where we have reached our ceiling.
It worries me that Dean will end up paying for this with his job - and maybe some other people.
We have clearly come a bit unstuck - I don’t think we were expecting Joe to go - and we’re building around him and I think they are not sure how to do a plan b - bring in too many players and risk time gelling.  I think also they have found it more difficult to secure targets than expected.
I think we’ll still bring in 1 more player - but not sure if it will be one that blows peoples socks off.
Maybe the board are seeing this year as another of stability while they reassess now plan a is gone

So erm.. What is the formation without Bailey, Bertie and Ollie then?
Play Carney Chukwuemeka
