Did he get a medal and shake-hands with all the big-wigs on the podium? Forgot to look out for him.

I'd imagine he must have.

A Scotsman with a winners medal, now there's a rarity. I hope his father was still alive to see it, I recall he was very ill and McPhee last autumn stepped down from his Scottish role to spend more time taking care of his father.

Nice bit of praise from Morgan today for our set piece maestro.

On celebrating with the set-piece coach: “He bangs on at me to do it more. Sometimes I don't do it as well as I should. That one was for him. He does his homework on all free-kicks, especially attacking free-kicks – how high we have to get it, how much it has to come down. He’s really good at stuff like that. That one was for him.”

Now to practice getting over the first man from a corner.

I’m pretty sure our corners have been quite successful the last two seasons.

Isn’t it the taker’s ability that produces the up and down travel of the ball? The ball is exactly 10 yards from the wall line in every scenario. The skill of the taker is the trick. Can it be coached? I suppose where you hit it on your foot and how you spread your body weight is all part of it so Mcphee must know the science behind it.

I was there on Sunday and without wishing to take anything away from Morgan, it was a generous 10 yards.

And, according to an article I read referencing Ronaldo, the position of the valve in the ball relative to the striking foot.

The ball is rarely 10 yds from the wall: refs pace the 10 steps out, which doesn't make it consistent at all. Also, if you remember the freekick vs Manure which Digne took, there was a comment about MacPhee using a trackman in practice and then realising that refs usually only pace out about 8.5 - 9 yds: in the Manure game, we moved the ball back to give Digne the 10 yards, from where he duly obliged.

Okay, it’s meant to be 10 yards and I assume that Buendia and Rogers practice using a wall of mannequins all day and for as long as they’re happy with their execution. If there is a fluctuating wall distance then we can assume an amount of luck for both players. Or, as it appeared to me that both easily cleared the height of the wall so you can assume a fluctuating wall distance difference is not that important a consideration within reason.

If I were organising training on free kicks I'd always have the wall closer (8yards for example) because not only does it improve basic technique but there's also a psychological boost of getting a free kick in a game and it feeling like the wall is miles away.

For any closed skill training you should always try to it more difficult than the 'real' thing.

They were talking about a robotic wall on the Fozcast recently, one where you can add or remove mannequins to the wall and program individual mannequins to jump.

Wonder if we have any fancy equipment like that?

We ought to, that sounds proper space age ... playing against a team of robots.
