Good luck to him. Probably needs a change of scenery.

I saw a comment on the last page saying he was crap. I don't agree with that but, he has definitely struggled to recapture any sort of form from the season before last.

A confidence player who is lacking confidence and has been for about a year.  A move is definitely good for all concerned in this instance.

He was carrying an injury the end of the previous season and has never seemed to recover from it, physically or mentally.

He's always been brittle, physically and mentally. It's kind of hard to fathom as his career progression demonstrated huge resilience, from a young kid all the way through. At his best, he was a key player in our CL qualifying team, starting or from the bench. Brilliant goal and cameo at Arsenal the highlight. But Emery long ran out of patience with him last season.

I know Sheff Utd were shit that season but I was up there for the away game and he was utterly unplayable, their poor lad at full back was absolutely tortured.
He was my player of the season that year, such a shame it was fleeting because when he was at it he was a joy to watch, like he was made of elastic.

Being reported by @Ocommando91 - Italian journo that we've agreed a €6m loan fee with a buy option of €18m. Comes out as £19m in total.

Would much prefer that the figures were in GBP with an obligation to buy and AS Roma picked up all if his wages for this season - £6.24m pa.

Its a bit pointless having a option as we know they wont take it after they see how crap he is. But if it means he going means we can get someone else in this window its a no brainer

Sizable loan fee and his wages - by all accounts quite significant wages - off the books, seems like a fine short term solution. See where we are and he is next summer.
