All of these players are adjusting under the new manager. One that wants to coach and improve them. Leon clearly takes things to heart when he plays badly and you see that feels he let everyone down tonight. He has to find a more consistent level of play. As has been pointed out he blows very hot and then very cold. If he achieves a level that makes him highly reliable he will have a very good career.

I agree with that, but ultimately, this isn't some kids team where we're 'all winners', he's got to start delivering, and he's spent too much time not doing that.

I feel sorry for him tonight after that miss, he is quite clearly missing, and I think he is very much a confidence player, but it is ultimately on him to improve. The coaches can work with him on that, but he just needs to start at the emotional level.

When things go badly for him during the match, you see his shoulders physically slump, his head goes down, he switches off, stops chasing down the ball. You just can not do that and get away with it at this level.

Things do indeed blow hot and cold, which is understandable, but the hot / cold ratio is WAY out of kilter.

I am not suggesting we drive him out of the club, but there's a serious problem there.

As Woodhall said, he can be great, but when he's not good, he is very, very bad indeed.

A bit like Traore in that he’s magnificent on his day but that’s 1 in 5 at best. Can see what it means to him though and although he should have scored it was also hardly a tap in.

That’s where rubber meets the road as they say. As much as coaching will take him so far his willingness to improve is what determines his success at this level. This the PL and it can be merciless. Underperform and it will find you out. But I think he is a very talented player and he has a future with us.

Agree with this. Yes, he's very frustrating but when he signed I was afraid he might turn out to be a 'Big Time Charlie' so I like the fact that he's taken it to heart.

Having seen it on MOTD I don't the chance was as easy as some were making out here. The keeper made himself big and pushed him out wide and he was trying to dig out from under his feet with a covering defender. Even if he'd got it on target it would have been tricky to get enough power on it to beat the defender.

Agree with that but I'd add he needs to become a team player, he tries too hard to do the impossible, over complicating far too often. Sometimes, most times, the simple ball is the best. Tonight he went for personal glory when Watkins was in a better goalscoring position. He missed and was always going to miss.

I like that he got into that position late on. He wanted the ball where a lot of players can shy away from that responsibility. I want my players to give a fuck. He does even if it doesn’t translate as positively as he would like on occasion. He’s the kind of player Sir Graham would have put an arm around the shoulder and coach physically and mentally. He will grow from this and he will come back even stronger. Over the years we have had so many players who could not give a single fuck about their own performances for us. They played shit they got paid well and came back and did it again. Leon Bailey cares. I want that in all our players.

His right foot is for standing on only but the explosiveness as per the obligatory YouTube clips from Leverkusen seems to have disappeared. Needs to physically get stronger to retain possession better.
