Think of all the wingers we’ve had over  the years. My first Villa hero was Tony Morley, to the extent i bumped into him in a coffee shop in Sutton Coldfield a couple of years ago and was tongue tied gutted.  Then Mark Walters with his step overs, then Tony Daley. Later and for a very short but impressive period Nobby Solano, after that Ash Young, even Robert Snodgrass in the championship and obviously Joe.
Bailey, has sublime moments, like goals against Brentford, Man Utd, Leeds, when he came on at old trafford in the league cup, beat 3 or 4 men and set Watkins away. But in between those moments, he literally does nowt and is more akin to Nigel Callaghans spell at Villa than those mentioned above.
Whatever the frustrations with all those other Villa wingers, they just did more and in the case of Walters and Daley, in both very good and very shite Villa sides.
It’s m never normally one to write players off too early, but i just dont see it with him.

In terms of goals, he's a step down from El Ghazi. In terms of effort and application, he's a step down from Trezeguet.

He lacks arrogance, aggression, or something. He needs to man up a bit.

He seemingly does get bullied very easily. First run at a defender and if they block him or tackle him it seems his head drops and that it for the game. All footballers rely on confidence but his is as made of glass as Keinans legs

He's the kind of player who is still (without going all Carpethead) capable of a bit of magic to turn a game and might weigh in with a few crucial goals between now and the end of the season.

Beyond that I don't see him staying with us.

I reckon Bert fits into your list better than Bailey and he's probably the most frustrating player we've had for years.

I like the idea of Bailey more than the real thing. As I've said before (much to the upset of footy) I just don't think he's adapted to the quicker and more physical nature of English football. There are flashes of the player he could be if he gets over that but they're just not regular enough. I think he's got the rest of the season to work it out or he'll be moved on in the summer. That we were looking at Williams shows that it's an area Emery is concerned over.

Bailey positives -
He has a good shot on him, scored some cracking goals and when he shoots he can cause problems like he did last week when he hit the bar without playing that well

Bailey negatives -
For all the talk of his pace I rarely see him actually beat a man and get a decent cross in
More often stops turns, then stumbles over it
He’s better running onto a ball in a forward position rather than trying to get past a man where he’s very good at running straight into him

Rambo bringing back  ice memories of wingers of the past he’s not in the same league as Daley or Walters they went past people with ease

I think those 2 are basically the same thing, he doesn't use his pace well enough because he's trying to keep the option to cut inside open but defenders know that's what he wants to do so they offer the space out wide knowing he won't run into it very often.

I still think he'd look more dangerous on the left but that does have an impact on his ability to shoot, which as you say, is the thing he's had going for him so far.

Maybe playing as a more obvious 2nd striker would see him drifting from the centre which might help him find a balance between getting into shooting positions and using his pace to turn teams.

I think he can beat his man though, he has a very good first touch and close control, it's ruined by how predictable he is right now.

Take AEG's penos off him, I doubt he was that more prolific than Leon.

Yeah but players become much better when we look back to the past (El Ghazi) or they've been on the bench for months (Buendia). I think El Ghazi was a great contributor for Villa but people forget he took himself off socials when he was getting the stick Bailey seems to get now

Nobody's saying that El Ghazi has got better by being out of the team. Bailey hasn't by being in the team, that's the point.

I think that's more down to Gerrard not wanting to play with wingers. He's commented that he wants a better mix of attributes in the squad.

You said he's a downgrade on El Ghazi. Bailey is an upgrade on El Ghazi and I can use career history, transfer fees, finish places in the league to help that argument. Yes Bailey is frustrating but if you went on comments alone and didn't see him play, you'd think he was a competition winner getting to run around at Villa Park

Go on then. Transfer fees, this should be a laugh.
