Sir Jack & Sir Tyrone?

The Mirror is suggesting that there could be knighthoods if England win.

Which is a ridiculous, as is saying that Monday should be a bank holiday.

It's not as if it's the World Cup

It's bigger and will have more impact than the Olympians or cricketers that have been knighted recently.

Is it harder to win?

I wouldn't say so, on the basis that mediocre teams like Portugal and Greece have won it. Only genuinely big football nations have won the World Cup. World Cup is much harder to qualify for, too.

They’d no doubt turn it down, like the good Marxists they are.

How absurd. Southgate maybe, but not the players.

Very Small Heath in an international setting. Small time.

Ridiculous. Maybe, maybe... Southgate would just about merit one, but I feel sure that most of the '66 winning squad didn't get knighthoods, and the ones that did got them years later.

I find it absurd that sportspeople get them with careers ongoing. Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton would certainly have deserved them upon retirement, but I think it cheapens them somewhat to have young, active sportspeople with the honour.

Small Heath would retire all the shirt numbers!

I don't think it's that absurd to be honest, didn't Paul Collingwood get an OBE for scoring eight in The Ashes? They only had to beat one team to win that...

And got mercilessly sledged by Warne as a result.

Can Aussies still get knighthoods? Pretty sure the Don had one but not aware of, say, Warne or Ponting getting the call?

What about other Commonwealth countries, has Usain Bolt got one yet?

Sir Don Bradman. Sir Edmund Hillary. Rolf could have been a contender.
