Which is a ridiculous, as is saying that Monday should be a bank holiday.

It's not as if it's the World Cup

Is it harder to win?

It is for England yes.

Populist government nonsense.

One could argue that applies to the whole silly honours system, to be honest. What does an Officer of the British Empire actually do? Do they have to do a month a year service defending Rockall?

It does. But this would debase it even further.

I definitely think those Tory MPs with ridiculous knighthoods should be stuck on a horse in chain-mail and forced to do tours of Leeds city centre at kicking out time.

Knighthoods for all are nailed on if we win it with this populist government.

Boris is such a lucky fucker I'm almost certain it's coming home.

We're acting like a small nation and things like this are a little embarrassing. If we do win, it's long, long overdue and hopefully it will happen more frequently in future.

I wouldn't say so, on the basis that mediocre teams like Portugal and Greece have won it. Only genuinely big football nations have won the World Cup. World Cup is much harder to qualify for, too.
Yes true. Denmark left their sun beds and won the Euros I can not imagine a team winning the World Cup like that.

Can Aussies still get knighthoods? Pretty sure the Don had one but not aware of, say, Warne or Ponting getting the call?

What about other Commonwealth countries, has Usain Bolt got one yet?

Sir Don Bradman. Sir Edmund Hillary. Rolf could have been a contender.

Dame Edna Everage.

We’ve got a sort of holiday. We can have the day off Monday but only if we promise to come in next Saturday. I’m doing it as I’d have been in on Saturday anyway. It just won’t be overtime.

When was the last time a government didn't jump on a big sporting bandwagon? Maybe 2004 Olympics?
