Tried explaining this to the other half last night when she asked why I wasn't getting excited about them winning.  Told her that the Walsall game in 2 weeks was "the big one".  I used to be into watching England as a kid but the Rooney, Gerrard, Cole, Ferdinand, Lampard (but definitely not John Terry who I've always admired both as a player and a person) era put me right off, as I couldn't get behind a bunch of characters who I usually wanted to see get absolutely trounced.

They're a likeable bunch now though and though I think Southgate is winging it as a manager you have to applaud them for continuing to take the knee.  Really happy for them to win it but I won't exactly be in tears if Italy win on Sunday, though I'd be chuffed for Grealish and Mings.

As many others have said though I would honestly sooner see the Villa win a goal-kick, corner, etc. than England win any match.

Exactly the same for me. South Africa, 2010, players slagging off fans who’d spent £5k to be there. Up until that point, I’d been hugely into watching England and been to plenty of games.

The Villa every time. When they lose it's personal. For most of my life, when England lose it's been a resigned shrug or disappointment in the case of Italia '90 or Euro '96. When England lost to Iceland I laughed.

Villa every time - I regularly say I don’t like football, I just love The Villa.

To me, internationals always just feel like a massive distraction. It was telling that I couldn’t have cared less about how it went last night but I have watched that clip of Emi winding the Ecuador players up and pulling off saves about a million times.

I'd much rather see Villa win something and I'm much less interested in England than I was even a few years ago.  But would I take England winning a mjor trophy for the first time in my lifetime over Villa winning one game in a 38 match season?  Yeah, I would.

Villa is huge for me. I watch every single game. Even if we played Kiddy Harriers in a friendly, I'd be there or watching anyway I can.
England, not as big - all the qualifiers etc I just can't be arsed to watch.

You might want to try tolerating them, their not insignicant numbers at Villa Park are about to multiply.

I only support the villa players in an england team. No villa and I support the opposition, whoever they are.
Seconded

Villa. I love international football as entertainment and tournaments are almost always enhanced when England go out or don't qualify.

I normally put Villa over England every time, but sorry had to go with England winning a trophy. If the Villa v Watford was the FA cup final then Villa though.
This 100%
