Probably my most memorable day on H&V as during the afternoon (a Sunday as I recall) rumours turned to disbelief to shock and anger. It was the day that H&V put the CNN OJ car chase rolling news to shame.

Can someone explain what this thread is about.

We appointed a manager who had just presided over a relegation season at Small Heath. It would be like an Everton manager getting the club relegated and then immediately being offered the Liverpool job. It also meant it was a rather busy and surreal day here on H&V as the barely believable rumours started to gain momentum and rumour turned to disbelief, then shock and then disappointment and or anger depending on how you took the news. I think I can say without much argument that the vast majority of us on here were far from happy with the news.

Ten years on and the only plausible reaction remains what the actual fuck did we do that for?

I prefer to treat the TSM1 season a bit like Dallas treated the death of Bobby Ewing. (For those too young to have any clue about what I'm talking about - it was all a dream/nightmare)

Didn't Alex McLeish get a glowing reference from Alex Ferguson which impressed Randy?

Not enough of us protested this appointment and casualy allowed Randy Learner to vindictively show us who was the boss.

It was a ****** move but, in the main, we took it lying down.

What the fuck was anyone at the club thinking with that appointment?

Good bad indifferent appointments. Nothing comes close in terms of being utterly inexplicable

That was the day the Lerner dream died. That was the beginning of the doom and gloom that culminated in our relegation five years later.

Yes SirAlex had a habit of recommending dull useless proteges, save Hughes who he fell out with and who's teams seemed to be the only ones who didn't roll over and die in matches against his
