Do you think Buenida signing an extension for 2027 a case of protecting assets and ensuring a solid fee if we sells him in the next 12 months? ... Then revisit things in summer and if he should be here for season 25/26
I agree with you on this point.
The problem we have is that Buendia is a clever player who sees passes the players around him often don't (conceding the ball is often the result) but he's fundamentally not strong enough on the ball to play in the upper echelons of the Premier league: too much breaks down when he's on the ball. Compare and contrast with Rogers who is strong as an ox but doesn't see the passes!
Both are a problem because when the possession breaks down with them we get caught on the break. Rogers is probably more fixable, and I think Buendia will be out of the door in the summer.

He never hides and obviously cares about his performances - to that end he's a likeable player.  But him signing an extension just means we won't be upgrading for a while, which is mildly depressing when we are SO close to being contenders.  PSR is friend and foe.

Morgan to Buendia is an okay alternative (with Ramsey and McGinn also in the mix).  It’d cost £40m+ to buy a guaranteed upgrade and that money is better spent elsewhere.

Emi Buendía is close to joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan with an option to buy.

A (seemingly reputable) Argentinan journalist has said that the Leverkusen loan / option to buy definitely seems to be happening.

Nice move for him if it happens.

Well that's him scoring the goal to knock us out of the Champions League sorted then.

Emi2 might well need regular football, but Villa need reserve players who are fit and actually exist. Emi2 meets those criteria

He was our best player in Monaco.

Which, admittedly, is the lowest of low bars.

This seems odd to me - do we need to be even lighter up top?

Don't see the point of loaning him out with no compulsory buy. Also not sure he'd get into a team that nearly won everything last year. If he's just exchanging our bench for theirs, his value is only going to decrease.

Lowers the wage bill, gives him possibly more of a chance to play; I suspect he'll get very limited game time in the remainder of our season.

Less than 18 months left on his deal, another key factor. Getting a loan move to German champions seems an odd move, mind. Bit of a stretch that Buendia would get more minutes from them than us. From Leeds links to Leverkusen, his agent has been putting in a shift it would seem.

I’m a big fan of his, but appreciate others are a bit meh. He makes things happen in the final third and is a risk taker which can be frustrating (but no more than Rogers).

If he was going lower Premier League or top of the Championship, I’d accept maybe it is best for him, but it looks like he’s going to one of the top 10 clubs in Europe. All ifs and maybes but this may be one we regret in the coming weeks.

🔴⚫️🇦🇷 Emi Buendía to Bayer Leverkusen, here we go! Deal in place with Aston Villa on loan with buy option.

Buendia has agreed to the move and medical tests will follow, as
@Plettigoal
 reports.

All set to be signed this week.
