He can go. We could do with shifting on players who are on the fringe and not really making much of an impact.

Strange time to sell after a very decent display in Monaco during the week. I like him but even before his injury he never performed consistently like a record signing should. Inability to protect possession held him back but he was always useful.

I thought both Buendia and Bailey were really well scouted at the time with the perfect profile to improve further with us. Hasn't really worked out.

I'm fine with Buendia going because I don't really know what he does for us. He doesn't score many (about 1 in 10) he doesn't get many assists (again about 1 in 10), he doesn't retain possession particularly well (about 80% pass success)m he doesn't beat his man (1 successful dribble every other game). Defensively he runs around a lot but doesn't press particularly effectively or work well as part of a team effort to control where teams have the ball against us.

It's not that I hate him, I just don't see any role in the team where we don't have better starting options and I don't see him being a player who will come on and change a game for us either. If there's interest and we can get a decent bit of cash for him I'd take it because I I doubt we'll offer a new contract, he's 18months away from being worth nothing and I just don't see him having enough impact to be worth keeping around.

Those 1 in 10 stats - how many of those games are as a cameo sub? Surely his record per minute is much better.

The type of passes he treaded in Monaco and for our winner against WHam, I think Tielemans is the only player who does it. I'd keep him for impact sub and the odd start unless he can be upgraded which will be difficult with PSR.

I love Emi, always have, I’m just not sure he’s what we need right now? I maybe wrong, but I personally think we need better. However it worries we that we can’t afford better so selling him will leave us short. If this is the case, it doesn’t make sense and these rules are just bloody daft.

Emi only has a year left on his contract so it's best to try and get a fee for him rather than let him leave for nothing next year as I doubt we would offer him a new contract.

I’m surprised we’re happy to see him go unless financial circumstances dictate. His work rate and threat in the final third is really valuable and he’s been unlucky not to get more game time given our inconsistencies.

If he does go and there is no attacking replacement, we’re gambling on Rogers in particular staying fit for the rest of the season.

I honestly think we'd tried to upgrade him with Diaby and as sharp as he'd looked pre-season his days were numbered before he got the injury.

Didn't you say that his WHam cup cameo could turn around his career here?

I did indeed, and I thought he played quite well the other night in contrast to some of his teammates.

Doesn't change what I said though, I think his card was marked back then and Rogers coming through in between has only made it more likely, but on the other hand we have some squad issues in the forward areas and those couple of decent performances may have bought him some time.

Yes, he was heavily involved in every bit of good  football we played on Tuesday, rare as it was.

I love him, has a vision and tries things that not a lot of players dare to, is committed, gets stuck in and has high standards.

He's not as silky smooth as Rogers, and his ceiling is lower, but things happen when he's around.

With squad size and PSR though, it's unlikely he'll play much I reckon.

Think we all like Emi for his tenacity and skill but he’s not quite good enough to be starting for us, if we want to be regular top 4/5 contenders.

Makes sense to cash in on him rather than let his contract run out.

He's just come to an agreement with the club to extend his contract by a year according to David Ornstein.

A one year extension feels like the club protecting his value, rather than any sign that he's going to play more. I wouldn't be surprised to see him depart in the summer.

What are we likely to get for a player who has been out for 12 months and has 1 year left? £5m?

He never hides and obviously cares about his performances - to that end he's a likeable player.  But him signing an extension just means we won't be upgrading for a while, which is mildly depressing when we are SO close to being contenders.  PSR is friend and foe.

Or, as has been said above, it’s just protecting us a bit more in terms of getting a better fee for him if he moves on as there’s longer to run on his contract. That in conjunction with more game time in the second half of the season might put a few million on his value.
