I’m surprised we’re happy to see him go unless financial circumstances dictate. His work rate and threat in the final third is really valuable and he’s been unlucky not to get more game time given our inconsistencies.

Which is why Diaby left and is why we've let Carlos leave, as 2 of our highest earners who weren't really justifying that with performances. It's why we were also willing to let Digne go but he's changed that by proving himself worth the money.

That said I think that 96% figure needs to be looked into a little more and given more context. That's based on the 22/23 season where we had a big expense of paying off Gerrard and hiring Emery (and all their coaches), we've also moved on a few high earners. On top of that our income has increased significantly, with turnover of £400m looking possible this season, compared to £205m-ish that season.

I doubt we're at any imminent risk of going over 70% so, if we do let Buendia go, it's because we think we can make better use of the money and squad place.

We still had to let Luiz and Diaby go though just over 6 months ago because the finances aren't good

I honestly think we'd tried to upgrade him with Diaby and as sharp as he'd looked pre-season his days were numbered before he got the injury.

I'm fine with Buendia going because I don't really know what he does for us. He doesn't score many (about 1 in 10) he doesn't get many assists (again about 1 in 10), he doesn't retain possession particularly well (about 80% pass success)m he doesn't beat his man (1 successful dribble every other game). Defensively he runs around a lot but doesn't press particularly effectively or work well as part of a team effort to control where teams have the ball against us.

It's not that I hate him, I just don't see any role in the team where we don't have better starting options and I don't see him being a player who will come on and change a game for us either. If there's interest and we can get a decent bit of cash for him I'd take it because I I doubt we'll offer a new contract, he's 18months away from being worth nothing and I just don't see him having enough impact to be worth keeping around.

Hard to disagree with that assessment.

I think things could have been very different for him here but for that injury - he’d been in good pre-season form and looked very much to be part of the plan. I’m not sure where he fits in now.

Some of out best attacks on Tuesday were from him doing something within one or two passes before the finish. Not saying we should keep him, just that stats don't show his best bits.

He's excellent at Everton away games . But that's an expensive hobby .
I liked him could see what he was trying to do , when it comes off it's sublime . It just doesn't come off enough , fine margins . He was our record signing . Now it's Onana .

Most stats sites do record that as key passes though, and even on that metric (which I agree is the best thing he brings) he's nowhere near as effective as Tielemans.
