he doesn't make our team most weeks so he'll never get in the national team
He's not good enough for an automatic starting shirt for the Villa let alone the world champions

Buendia isn't good enough consistently for us yet, and Mings put one on a plate for Mason Mount right in front of Southgate.
If mistakes mattered to Gerrard then Maguire would have spent his summer scrapping in Mykonos again rather than in Qatar.

I just don't think you can really blame Gerrard for any players who didn't make the World Cup. When you've got players like Ben White, in great form and top of the table with Arsenal not getting a look in, then it's hard to make a case for Mings. Apart from the players who were injured who I mentioned before, who else should have gone? Luiz hasn't really been a regular, and Brazil have the likes of Guimaraes and Fabinho in that position. Watkins?
and Fred, if Luiz isn't a better option than Fred then I haven't got a hole in my arse. I think he's the only 1 who was genuinely hard done by and I'd put that down to Gerrard. A few others are probably 'maybes' to have gone if they were in top form and someone else was struggling but most were only on the fringes of the squads before Gerrard arrived and even if we'd been much better might not have forced their way in. Looking forward for the next world cup we really should have a lot more players representing us if we get where we want to be.
